Alexa worldwide ranking down 80k spots in 3 weeks

After a steady 2 year growth from 3 million global Alexa rank to 120,000, my Alexa rank has gone down to 200,000 now in a span of 3 weeks.

What might be a reason for this massive drop?

My hits are stable, thought have been 20% lower cumulatively in these 3 weeks. The website in concern is a regularly updated gaming content website. ALL CONTENT IS UNIQUE.

Do you know for sure that your site is losing traffic? Have you checked your analytics? It could be that others are just leap-frogging over you and in reality your site is still consistent with what it's been doing.

To be honest, I think fretting over Alexa ranking is a waste of time. There are so many other better ways to track your site's performance. Alexa rankings are limited to those with the Alexa toolbar - which is a very small percentage of websites.

    The best to you,

Unless you're loosing a large amount of traffic, I wouldn't worry about it. Alexa ranks will rise and fall all the time and don't necessarily illustrate real world traffic.

The drop could have come from a lot of new popular websites launching or a change in Alexa's ranking algorithm. It's very hard to say.

Alexa rank doesn't mean anything. It has nothing to do with how much traffic your site receives...

Alexa Rank only reflects the activity of Alexa toolbar users. In other words, it's about as much use as Long John Silver on the high hurdles.
