Hey, I have been exploring Wordpress Mu for the last few days and think that I will probably be using it for large future projects. Anyone else using WP Mu?

I do have a concern though, if I am looking to create a 10 separate geo networks and link them (so each city would have 5 geoniche.com sites) and were to use 10 WP Mu installations, how would that work. It seems that this one installation would make each new domain be practically a subdomain? Is that true?

Anyways, WPMu seems like a nice way to scale up. Anyone else think so?

WPMU is pretty cool... You'll want to look into making sure
your database can handle the crazy amounts of multiple
    accounts though.

These people have a plugin that makes everything smooth
and lots of other neat plugins. They are the authorities from
what I've been able to find.

I saw that site earlier and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for WP Mu related stuff. Its pretty complex and stuff (more complex than regular WP at least).

      Wpmututorials.com also seems pretty nice.

WP MU is super cool BUT remember that not all WP themes and plugins work with WP MU and if you are planning a large scale operation you may have to rethink your web host requirements and get yourself a dedicated server (if you don't have already) or a couple depending on how big and how much bandwidth is being used. The other thing with WP MU is that the community is smaller than WP Org so you may not get as much information/help as you would like from the wordpress support forums if you have a problem. Remember, you can also scale up using WP Org and plugins like WP Hive, Categories to Subdomains to create additional sites if that's what you are after.

All the best and good luck with your project.

it's amazing - I have hundreds of autoblogs distributed across a massive range of wordpress mu sites. I get different IPs, domain names, subdomains often, and .. it doesn't cost a penny.

I have one installed with wildcard domains because I wanted to see how it worked, how different it was from regular WP, and which plugins worked or didn't work. I haven't opened it up to others and probably won't for that particular site since it's mainly for testing, but I have been playing around with some cool customizations.

    I like it

    Hi,

Yes, WP MU works great. There is only one caution that I'd like to float... IF you leave the signup process open, be very careful who you allow to create blogs/subdomains.

There are plenty of people using bots to create accounts and then uploading filth --often illegal stuff, that you end up hosting.

There is a WP MU admin setup that allows you to exclude certain sub-domains. I would use that to take out some obvious key words. Be wise, before you're surprised.

    Success,
    Sam
