How Much Would You Sell the Site For?

Hi guys,

I have a website that has earned ZAR 1620 in the last 3 months. The breakdown for the months is as follows:

Nov - Zar 286.52
Dec - Zar 409
Jan - Zar 923

If you were thinking of selling it, how much would you sell it for?

The traffic is increasing , and most of it is organic traffic. It averages around 400 to 500 views a day.It has numerous Google page one rankings, and it's currently monetised via adsense.

I think a better monetization method is to sell leads or rent it out but I just haven't gotten around to doing that. It's a local site based for the South African market- health/medical niche

If it was your site, how much would you sell for?

thanks in advance for your input

Incase anyone is unsure, his site has earned $143 in the last 3 months.

Looks like your earnings (and maybe traffic) is on an exponential curve. I would keep it for 5 months, and hopefully your earnings continue to rise. Then, depending on your traffic sources, monetization strategy, it could be worth 12 times its average monthly income.

Sell it with a broker if it is a quality site. Empire flippers will get you a good price.

      9x? That's a little low, isn't it?

Especially since the site's traffic and earnings are on the rise, I would wait a while (maybe 2-3 more months) until it's earning a flat $100+ per month, and then sell it for at least 1.2K-1.5K USD, 13K-17K zar.

Taking pride in the fact that I put a lot of effort into my niche sites (these are my sites that get the most google traffic) I would sell for 18x times monthly profit.

My reasoning: I'm not going to be dumb with a site I put my time and effort into. I would ensure that my site has been earning consistently for at least 12 months prior to flipping. If I wanted to flip it all along I would have 12 months of profit track record to PROVE the site has been strong and will likely continue to do so with the proper maintenance.

The 18x profit angle i take would be to wait for the site to profit well for 18 months, nurture it, make sure traffic only growing and not decreasing, then sell for 18x single month profit.

In this case i would only sell for the 12x or 18x to reflect the number of months the site has been earning up to that point. Some say this is unrealistic, and I agree for some flippa auctions where the site only goes for like 3x - 6x monthly profit.

In my eyes most flippa sellers aren't doing it properly. To sell a site for more you need to have it slightly under monetized with a ton of traffic so that potential is seen for the site. Once people see potential, and big potential at all, ohhh boy can you bet a site will go for 8x - 12x monthly revenue.

Or you can have it properly monetized and still sell well. You just have to make sure your traffic records show consistent always increasing traffic for x number of months. The longer your track record, the better.

In brief, for your site I would continue to grow it so it has more stats to boast about once it's up for sale. You need that thing to roar with "I'm profitable...I have crazy potential!" so it appeals to the right buyers.

Thank so much for your input.

It seems I really need to be patient and grow the site for the next couple of months. That was my initial thought when I started the site, and the only reason I was thinking of selling is because I lost my job and I need the money.

The site is showing a lot of potential, and though I have not done anything to it, the traffic keeps growing and the money increasing, which is very encouraging.

I am definitely going to add more content and see how much it grows by

    thanks . . .

    Hey Lisa,

If the site is still growing significantly, you might be better hanging on to the asset until the traffic/revenue stabilizes. It's not going to hurt you in any way and may likely get you more value out of the site when you do sell.

Consider this - you're currently earning around $50 per month with the site. You could sell for us right now at $1K and keep $850 yourself out of the sale, but if you can wait 6 months and get it to $150/month you're looking at a sales price of $3K (and keeping $2,550) That's not to mention the additional cash you make during the 6 months you've held it.

Of course, if you need a quick sale and really need the cash, your stuck, I guess.

A general rule of thumb I use for a selling price of a site is 6 x $monthly income
