Email marketing is good way for selling but I don't think its 40 times more effective than Social media.
People do buy a lot on Face Book. Thats why we see lots of ads on face book and thats why most of us advertise on face book.

I think the 40 times figures are exaggerated

it did say that up to 40 times in their study, it don't mean that everytime more than 40%, i believe it can be effective, so far personally everything i've bited on is from email list, never from Facebook or elsewhere that i would have gone to the end and bought something.

I'm currently building my list from Facebook Ads. So as a newbie list builder who only started my list 8 days ago, it's good to know email isn't dead just yet. Only 28 subscribers so far, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere.

That is a good point, Simon. If you can build your List from various sources including FB , then by all means do so.

Just not sure about the Conversion rates being that high as compared to say producing some really quality blogs where you can build your brand and trust with a lot of good content.

But I guess of course you can use Facebook to direct people to that Blog and get referrals that way.

If you don't believe it, then your sales will never increase.

      Here's some food for thought...

Why You Shouldn’t Create a Newsletter (and What to Do Instead)

Someone else who won't settle for an either/or when 'and' is the right word.

Excellent article, John. Copyblogger has been a mainstay for me as far as reading all their emails and blog posts for a number of years now.

To me that is all you really need. Remember Blogging is a form of Social Media. Some people forget that and always assume when you are mentioning Social Media you are always referring to Facebook or Twitter.

A blog with a good email sales funnel = A truly deadly weapon if you are serious about making money in the long run.

Which the Author of this Article, Jon Morrow, so aptly states

All social networks and anything else internet related requires
that you have an email address. So email is still primary to
any other communication online. Email ain't going anywhere
    soon.

The result always depends on the quality of your list and how targeted it is. 40% is overrated IMO.

I don't believe that email marketing is that more efficient however, I can agree that Emails do have more turnovers.
