Is this offer for my domain name genuine?
I've had (what I consder to be) a strange email offering to buy one of my domains. Here it is:
Dear Sir or Madam,
We are interested to buy your domain name XXXXX and offer to buy it from you for 65% of the appraised market value.
As of now we accept appraisals from either one of the following leading appraisal companies:
sedo.com
flyappraisals.com
accuratedomains.com
If you already have an appraisal please forward it to us.
As soon as we have received your appraisal we will send you our payment (we use Paypal for amounts less than $2,000 and escrow.com for amounts above $2,000) as well as further instructions on how to complete the transfer of the domain name.
We appreciate your business,
I have a site on the domain but not done much promotion yet. It's had few visitors. Presumably, as the email says, they want the name, not the site.
It took me a while to find the domain but I can't believe another couldn't be found in the same area with a little imagination.
Leaving aside the poor English and the fact that the email came from a gmail address, is this genuine? Do they own the appraisal sites ? How do you know what a site is worth? It's really only worth what someone will pay for it. What gives?
Ian
