Here is an interesting article just published on entrepeneur.com about press releases. It's a good read for anyone looking to do a press release.

Gary Vaynerchuck had some good insight on press releases. Check out his vid:

He more talks about press releases as being dead. Err... in the traditional form that we know them. Anyways, check it out its pretty interesting what he has to say.

it's a good article, i especially liked the section at the beginning about shorter is better, that is so true of press releases. They don't need to be long and rambling.

    Thanks TedK good read indeed.

I have done very well with traditional press releases myself so I know the power of a good headline

Never gave much attention to press releases and never included them in my overall strategy. Need to change that...

Looks like a good press release should include all the principles of good copy, pretty much like the salesletter. Except you have a different goal: instead of getting a sale, you want to get a phone call from a journalist.

Basically, you need to give journalists what they want: a good story they can tell their audience.

Press release is a way of promotion. I didn't used to know how important this was. Then I realize the funny thing about press release. You can use your press release in every kind of promotion. Its like adding torque in your car.

I never made $25 million on my press releases but I did score pretty big on a couple of press releases I did a few years ago when blog and ping was coming out and I promoted a new service that did it automatically.

The two press releases ended up making me over $8000 and only cost me I think around $60 at that time through PRWeb.

I did some other promotions with PR's before I went onto other things (got side tracked as always). Now I'm back into doing them.

You could always use free press release services. I had some luck with PressBox UK (forgot the actual url. They seemed to rank pretty well in Google when I submitted a release to them.

There are plenty more free service also. I just like the idea that you might not always hit a homerun but if you keep trying one could be just around the corner!
