Too Early To Tell?

I started building a list of 65 subscribers in the weight loss/fitness niche...I am sending free content as well as affiliate pitches here and there...I still have NOT made a sale yet (I know my list is extremely small)....My question is...

Is it too early to switch up my follow-up sequence, to test different strategies?

Should I wait until my list is much bigger to make adjustments?

I have been getting a good amount emails from my small list of subscribers raving how much my newsletter is helping them, I just can't seem to close a sale!

PS: These 65 subscribers are very responsive, and many are clicking through to my offers....Just not purchasing them!

    From what you say it seems like you are off to a good start. Keep building your list, using what ever methods you have used so far, and maybe add some other methods as well. Keep building good communication with your list and the sales will happen. You are correct that 65 is smaill. It is sort of a numbers game.

    I wouldn't tweak too much at this stage, until your list grows a bit.
    It's great feedback from your subscribers that your newsletter is as helpful as it is. But if all they're in it for is the free content sales will continue to be a challenge.

    Perhaps have someone look at the copy of your emails in which you pitch an affiliate product. I'd suggest some sort of text that describes the urgency of the offering, how its literally changed the life of people, etc. Entice them a bit more perhaps?

      The first two questions to ask when you're not making sales are:
      1. How well is the offer matched to the subscribers? Your subscribers should be a group of people with a common interest and a genuine desire (need/want) in the niche. In other words, are they highly targeted? If that's the case, then you should check to make sure your offer is exactly what they're looking for.
      2. How compelling is your offer? If what you're trying to sell lacks great value, is out-dated, can be found multiple places, has no urgency of purchase, or is questionable in any way, it's going to be a tough sell. If your sales copy and call to action is boring, confusing, not specific, or not benefit-driven then your sales will lag.
      Check these two criteria to see just how targeted, "hot," and enticing your sales pitch is and how you might make it better. Of course, there could be other problems, but this is where I would start if I were you.

    A small list which is very responsive is BETTER than having a big list with only a few responsive subscribers.

    You may try recommending some products that you think are interesting for them. But before recommending products such as affiliate products, make sure the product you are promoting have good reviews so that your list won't get turned off. Also, try not to make your email as if you are selling an item. Better make them feel that its an advice or a highly recommended product with 5 star reviews and you just want to share that info to them.

    Awesome advice everyone…I agree with you all and that is the approach I was going to take…I just like to hear from warriors who are more "experienced" than I am for some ideas…I will keep building my list, offer good value and maybe test some different approaches in my sales pitches!

    I expect 1-5% conversion on a hot list. If I don't get that, then its either my sales copy or the product that stinks. I'd wait until you have about 200 people for a decent test base.

    I think that you should continue to do what you are doing now and make sure that you have new leads coming in every single day.

    Not only that, but be persistent in sending good content to them with affiliate links.

      Yes, it is very early to tell.

      Even with a 50% open rate, you're only going to get just over 30 people. Then if a few fail to click through, we're talking only 20 clicks.

      You have to keep mailing, promoting different price points and products to get to know what the people on your list respond too.

      Maybe the products you're promoting right now are things that they've already seen, bought or can't afford. Keep testing and tweaking.

      Most importantly, keep growing your list.

      As of right now I am on a pretty tight budget but get anywhere from 3-10 new leads everyday (which I know is very little)...but I am working my way up and am testing different ways to sell affiliate products in my follow-up sequence...

      My traffic right now is coming in mostly free from YouTube and my blog...Once I have more funds I will be using paid traffic to really ramp things up!

    It takes a little while to build up a level of trust between you and your subscribers. The more great content you send them the more you will be likely to close them on an affiliate product.

    Don't get too aggressive with affiliate promotion yet because you'll probably do more harm than good. Just keep going with the regular messages and you'll get there in the end.

    IMO 65 is way too low to make any judgements, keep going until you have a few hundred before even thinking about looking at the data (IMO)

    One of the biggest mistakes people make when list building is giving away too much free information. If you feed them for free, there's no need to pay for a meal.

    Maybe you are giving away too much free stuff. I just started a new list that only has 86 people on it and it generated 6 sales.

    I would say 65 subscribers is far too early to be chopping & changing at this stage..

    On average, a person with a list can expect 2-4% CTR, so the bigger your list, the higher the probability you'll hit a sale or two.

    Focus on building your list before testing different strategies.

    65 leads is almost equivalent to 0 leads. But of course... you can get sales from this very small amount of people. Keep getting leads and keep marketing.... it is FAR too early to tell.

    Keep building your list and sending them similar content. It sounds like the leads you have are very responsive and it's only a matter of time before you start getting sales. 65 people is a very small list and it will have to get much bigger before you're getting sales with each and every email you send out. Sounds like you're off to a great start though, keep it up.
