Amazon Product Page vs Custom Landing Page

For those of you promoting products on Amazon, I'm just curious if you've tested the difference between sending visitors directly to an Amazon product page vs sending them to your own squeeze/landing page first?

I've been focusing in the tough arena of marketing fiction books and have started doing my own testing between the two, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's already tested this successfully.

Thanks!

    Hey Ron,
While I haven't done an actual test and run the numbers, I have promoted for Amazon both by sending direct to an Amazon product page and to a squeeze page.
In my case the results were significantly better with the Amazon page. But I really feel this is HIGHLY dependent on niche and specific products.
I was promoting physical products (both fitness equipment and bicycle accessories) - and the truth is, Amazon does an amazing job at selling once the customer is in their store.
    Hope this helps.

I don't even try to send people directly to Amazon. Best case is that I get a one-time commission. Worst case, I've wasted money I have no chance of getting a return on.

When I do recommend an Amazon product, it's on a page I own or control, and includes a way to get on my list. That way, I can recommend multiple amazon products.

Of course, I'm sending them to a content-rich site and recommending in the content itself, not sending people to a squeeze page or some automated faux review site.

Thanks for the helpful information! I'm promoting one of my own books as well as client books, so it's certainly been a challenge...especially dealing primarily with fiction! So I appreciate the insight.

Now to come up with a good landing page that converts!

Are you promoting your own books or other people's books?

If it's your own books, I would definitely use a "sales page". Amazon's product pages have so many leaks because they don't care what you buy as long as it's something from them (or an ad click).

If you create your own page you can put the book blurb without making people click that little "see more" link that Amazon puts on the longer blurbs, with no leaks.

Also, you can use your "add to cart" affiliate link, so that anyone who gets to Amazon will already have your book in their cart.
