hi guys,

im undertaking a portal project where i intend to build a portal serving my local customers.

im eyeing joomla (i chose this because personally i have deployed projects for my offline clients in joomla and it has a very vibrant eco system)

CMS aside, the critical component of the portal will be the forum (which i will be launching first before the other addons in jooma (for e.g. property listings, classifieds etc).

with regards to forums, the top 2 extension for joomla are:
kunena and agora forums, both which seems ok to me.

But they are natively integrated in joomla and this is the biggest plus point.

The other forums im considering is vb (which is another problem itself in that it has 3 version (3.x,4.x and 5 which is the latest).

Other interesting forum solution i found only includes:
vanilla forums (they have an interesting hosted solution which takes away the problem of server admin)

XenForo - Compelling Community Forum Software which seems interesting

of course ipb and phpbb.

problem is they do not integrate with joomla natively and i hate the idea of using third party bridges (the problem with third party is that when things go wrong, for e.g., security, things can go every wrong).

last but not least, the main requirements for my forum are:

1. i need native mobile apps for them (both ios and andriod) - im seriously considering tapatalk.com

2. point system in forum (i need this to reward users and seems like vb4 is the best choice)

anyone else out there who runs a community site has any tips to share?

im kinda stuck now and im installing forums on my server for testing...

headache...
