Hi what is the new deal with guest posting, should we do it or not? I heard things lately saying google are punishing people?

Im launching a product one website told me that I can either:

1) Do a link exchange (I blog on their site, they blog on mine)
1b) if I go with A, should I ask her to make the links to my site "do follow" or not?

2) Or I give them a free book and they write a review of it.

we are both in the same niche, which one would you go with.

Their website is a PR 3
My websites is a PR 1

You can do whatever you like it's YOUR site and not anyone elses. Certainly not Googles.

Google is clamping down on sites that exist just to publish low quality guest posts for links purposes.

Quality blogs that publish quality guest posts will not be affected.

How would Google even know the piece of content you posted to your site was a guest post or not? Because you linked to another blog?

Well that's how Google ranks sites and they tell us they like sites that have links from authority sites in your niche so as usual they are just trying to scare people and cause confusion.

Just do whatever you like and don't worry about Google. As long as you aren't blatantly spamming your site with links you'll likely be fine.

Focus on creating great content and driving direct traffic and Googles temper tantrums aren't an issue.

Option 1 might be hard to achieve since you are PR1 and they are PR3, UNLESS you have a good reader base. (They would be better off writing for their own site or for someone even more popular than they are.)

Note: I can be wrong here, if they are looking for do-follow links from a low PR domain.

    Option 2 sounds feasible.

If you have a great product, they should be open to talk about it. And you get free exposure nonetheless!
