GVO Suppressed emails are causing me a HUGE problem!

I warn you now, this post may make no sense to you what so ever, I apologise in advance.

I have recently started using GVO as an auto responder.

I have for years been using both Aweber and Get Response but thought I would give GVO a try.

I have built a team Network Marketing system which utilses a third party Auto-Responder site, GVO offer great commissions so I built my capture pages dedicated to their code.

After implementing my own tracking to attain the name and emails also within the site it quickly became apparent that GVO was not grabbing all of what I was getting.

After much digging around it turns out that GVO uses "global suppression" which simply means that anyone that has blocked or reported any other GVO user for Spam has their email address put into the "Global Suppression" pot. If they try and use the same email address to opt in to any other GVO user they are again shown the same capture page and this message:"Email is suppressed by global rules"

In metrics terms on a 100 click solo add I am typically losing 30 to 50% subscribers.

I haven't tested my site with any other Auto-Responder but GVO. Before I switch everything I am keen to know if other Auto Responders operate in the same way with similar metrics. I have never grabbed email addresses on my site before so this has never come to my attention. I know they have spam filters but to block all users that has ever blocked or reported spam in the past is ridiculous.

I love the commissions of GVO but myself and team are losing crazy amounts on subscriber counts.

If anyone can help or has had a similar experience I would appreciate your findings.

That is unless this whole post makes no sense at all which it would of done to me only yesterday.

Yeah you are right i don't get it.
As you say " been using both Aweber and Get Response for years" but then you ask "if other Auto Responders operate in the same way" you should know the answer...
Also, have you asked GVO support for help?

Don't talk to me about GVO support, they have no idea!

Why they can't just block the local list I have no idea. It means everyone with a GVO Auto-Responder is penalised because some jerk spams his list.

I'm not sure that Aweber and Get Response do this as stringently, the only purpose of this thread is to find out!?

Sure I know they have their own filtering but 50% is ridiculous and this is the first time I have gathered my own results.

i have barely used GVO personally, but i do have a lot of experience with autoresponders.

first, i know aweber has at times in the past blocked entire domains. From my experience they were always the the temporary email services like 10minuteemail and such. The ones i have seen them block were reporting all emails sent to the temp address after it expired to various spam tracking services...Thus hurting awebers spam numbers. Of course that affects deliverabitly to others esp so aweber had to act. The truth is this was so small and so behind the scenes that very very few ever even noticed it. Further more it has mostly become a non-issue because most of the temp email providers now just show awber a bounce and do not report to spam trackers. So it becomes a no harm no foul situation.

I also know a few people who work for amazon that i fully believe are credible who have told me amazons SES tracks such things. Notice, i didn't say i know amazon SES acts on these things, but i am reasonably certain they track and know if a particular email/domain is reporting/over reporting spam. My experience tells me they wouldn't track such things unless they A) felt there was sufficient reason to and B) were at least remotely considering some sort of solution.

Long story short, The number one thing for any AR company is deliverability. Without that, nothing else matters. Huge lists they never hit the inbox are worthless to everyone. So they must protect that at all costs. Even if it makes a couple people mad. No deliverabilty...No AR service...They know that.

I realize you are all upset about the "lost subscribers" but you first need to figure out if you are indeed loosing quality subscribers or are you just loosing "problem" subscribers. Experience tells me you may not be loosing nearly as much as you think you are in terms of valued subscribers. All subscribers are not created equal.

another thing to consider is that esp (gmail,yahoo,...) track data relentlessly. If your domain/email address has a higher than normal spam complaint ratio then guess what they do with things that come to thier servers with your name, email, domain in the headers...yep it gets filtered. That happens no matter what service you used to send the emails from.

The AR service you send from is just part of what makes something go to an inbox or spam folder. So in a way, GVO may indeed be saving you from email people with a know propensity to click the "spam" button.

The answer to your question is to setup a blind test. Send half the new subscribers to a GVO form and half to an aweber form. Send them all the same content and in a couple months you will know if GVO is costing you money or just subscriber numbers.

My gut tells me you are loosing more worthless people than you realize. But testing is the only way to know.

      Great reply David!

      Very much appreciated.

I have since spoken with Aweber, they don't have such measures in place. They certainly do have more in the way of filtering to ensure they keep their spam numbers low. I trust that GVO without such high tech filters have to resort to brutal measures to keep their numbers where they need to be.

I will test more following this as I too feel that the ones I am losing may not be worth having in the first place.

      Time will tell

      Thanks again!

    Hi John,

That's a really high % to loose. I agree with David that you want to clean out the deadwood from your list to maximize deliverability (people who don't open, but 30% to 50% of new subscribers getting blocked is throwing the baby out with the bath water.

The yahoo's and gmails of the world (I'll call them ESPs for Email Service Providers) track opens, clicks and complaints from a sending address, but more importantly they track the IP address that sends the email.

When you use a shared platform to send out emails, the AutoResponder's compliance department needs to work hand in hand with the ESPs to build up the reputations of the servers and IP addresses that they use to mail.

A good AutoResponder will have feedback loops with the ESPs, so for example when someone reports Spam at Gmail they get automatically removed from the sender's list.

When the ESPs knows and trust the AutoResponder's compliance team good things happen to deliverability.

GetResponse does not block contacts that has reported another of our customer for Spam. We will filter out undeliverable email addresses, but not people who have reported Spam.

If you want to discuss GetResponse' affiliate program send me a PM, I run GetResponse' affiliate program.

    Cheers,

    Hello Everyone,
I have just checked my GVO forms, and you are correct. I tried subscribing using a BRAND SPANKING new email address from my own domain. I know nobody used this domain to register for GVO but the Autoresponder still gives me the Global Policy - Supressed Email message.

    WHY?

Are they banning emails if they are similar as well?
I just added a "1" at the end of the email "teseating1@****.com
GVO Accepted my email with no warning, but I still do not see myself
    in the subscribers list...

ANYONE! knows of a plugin like Rapid Mailer, that would let me run my own
emailing/list managing service, just managing my own lists. It would be nice if
it's a WP plugin, but if it has a nice dashboard/control panel area, it doesn't
    really matter.

  • Use Getresponse, Aweber or Rapid Mailer for Wordress. Your list is what provides you sales and sales, so with an autoresponder that does that practice, you are losing out 30% to 50% commissions, if 30% to 50% of people cannot join your list.

As I said, nothing is more valuable than my list for me, so I try always to offer the best service ever, using big names autoresponders (actually I'm signed up to Getresponse, Aweber and I use Rapid Mailer as backup autoresponder).

See you soon and good luck!

Many people have had similar experiences, John. I promise I don't mean it impolitely, but you simply can't expect an autoresponder like GVO to offer a comparable service to the market leaders like Aweber and GetResponse.

When you look at the kinds of use to which GVO has been put in the past, it would be very surprising indeed for it to have anything approaching a tolerable deliverability-rate at all, surely?

There are logical, operational, inevitable reasons why the "strictest" autoresponder services - overall - tend to have the highest delivery-rates: in short, they've had far fewer "previous spamming problems" and far more ISP's are willing to receive and transmit email sent from their servers.

I didn't like to put it quite so bluntly (especially never having used it, myself), but I've heard so many of its previous users say this (by comparison with other services they've also used) that I don't really have much doubt about it.

Just as a side note, I noticed that no one mentioned this potential reason for why "30% to 50%" of your solo ad leads aren't getting through...

Some less than reputable solo ad sellers (more than you might think) use some fairly shady methods of getting essentially fake clicks and subscribers. Some of these are bluntly fakes, whereas others are real but not normal opt-ins and don't want to receive your offers. As such, some solo ad sellers will inflate those numbers for you a ton.

I am using GVO for the sole purpose of building residual income and have not used their autoresponder.

I am not planning to either but I love GVO and their compensation plan.

If you are not happy, just use Getresponse and keep your GVO account for the sake of earning residual income with them.

The bottom line is that Aweber and GetResponse are experienced at email delivery, while GVO is an MLM organization that threw together a few internet marketing tools on the cheap.
