Anybody had results with a Retargeting campaign?

As far as I know, this method is normally used through PPV campaigns placing a special pixel string in your website or landing page.

Then you get traffic from your PPV campaign and when visitors land on your website/LP (which already has the pixel), a cookie is placed on their computer. The cookie then follows the visitor wherever they go during their searching activities displaying again your site or page, eventhough they did not enter in your site nor opted in your capture page in their first or second or third visit.
This method enables you to continue advertising to those website visitors after they've left your website.

So you can "potentially" get results after the visitor leaves your site because your page is displayed again and again to that visitor, OR you may piss off the guy forever and make him hate you and your offer aswell?

Anybody got results (sales or subscribers) using this method?

I visited Anthony Robbins' site a few months back, and ever since then, that dude is following me everywhere.

Am I mad at him? Absolutely not. But that is because I am viewing it through the eyes of a marketer.

Would non-marketers get annoyed? Some of them might, but oh well. You can't make everyone happy all of the time...

The fact is, re-targeting works, and works very well.

Thank you Alex, but this is my puzzle:
If I were a theory of relativity student and wherever I go I'm followed by Albert Einstein, I'll feel very happy.
But if a persistent salesman does it, I'd not feel very comfortable and maybe I'll never buy from him?

        That's right!

You are not alone. People hate to be sold to. They love to buy stuff, but hate to be sold to...

        Funny right?

That's precisely why retargeting can work so well... you are sort of giving people a gentle reminder that you might have something to offer them that can benefit them...

After all, if they visited your site before, they might just need (or even WANT) a reminder about your product or service in order to become a customer...

You are right. I think there is definitely a limit though. If I am getting pitched 100 times a day through a retargeting campaign, that is too much. If I don;t buy the first 20 times I have seen the offer, I am probably not in the buying mood for that particular offer in the near future...

        Who knows though?

That same offer popping up 2 months later as a reminder when perhaps certain circumstances have changed might just turn me into a buyer at that point...

First off, I'm new to the boards here.

Secondly, I searched around for something relevant to text re-targeting vs. image/banner re-targeting and didn't see anything.

Wondering if anyone's has insight on text re-targeting's penetration and how it relates to display/banners.

    Here's a reference.
