I need some info on skype

I have never had a skype account, but I need one now for some training I signed up for. I downloaded it to my computer, and filled out all the info. Then it took me to a page, where I could choose a phone number, and after that to a page to PAY FOR THAT PHONE NUMBER.

My question is that I thought skype was free. Do I need a phone number to be part of a group coaching program? I don't really care about skype, and will probably never use it again, after this four week coaching course.

I appreciate any info you can give me.

    Skype is free. You might have missed to read some info on that page.. It is always optional..

    Skype calls are free. Skye video isn't. Perhaps in their latest release they're making it harder to find the simple 'free' options. Keep scrolling around, ignore any 'order credit now' buttons until you find the free service.
