Just wanted to pass along a find...

If you're looking around for a free blogging theme with some premium-level customization features, I really like this one I just found called Frontier.

Nice clean layout and lots of flexibility for a freebie.

Oh, and I'm not in any way affiliated.

Started using it for a new project and I'm really liking it. If you spend any time messing with the actual code, there are even options to add custom CSS and functions without having to create a child theme.

If you do want the child theme, there's a bare-bones one available on the theme site.

    Thank you for the recommendation!

One more theme to recommend: I'm currently using the Magazine Basic theme and its pretty organized too. Just do a search in wordpress and it'll pop up.

You're welcome, everybody! As free themes go, this one has more customizable functions and flexibility than most. It isn't gonna do what themes like OptimizePress or other high-end paid ones will do, but for basic uses without always making identical looking sites, this is pretty elite.

That's what got my attention. It's very clean, quite fast, but offers the ability to do significant customization without messing in the code. Too many people get hung up on pretty images - they look for the perfect "gadget theme" or "weight loss theme", not realizing that they are using the same pretty images as dozens, hundreds or in some cases, thousands of other users.

That's exactly why I like it! So many people who don't need all the bells and whistles get caught up in them. It's about your content, not the wrapper it comes in. This is true for about 95% of people using a theme. There are only some instances where a fancy theme is truly necessary. But a lot of us buy into the fancy paid themes, I suspect as cover for less-than-stellar content.
