Machine-produced videos...

Is it just me or does anybody else think these "article conversion videos" totally suck! I just don't get it. The cheesy slideshows are bad enough but the narration... it's just ridiculous! Is there anybody in the world who can be impressed with these and prefer this to reading?

You guys who are promoting these don't be offended (although I suppose you will be anyway). The concept is awesome and there's no doubt the production technology will advance to the point where the speech is almost human. You have to start somewhere.

It's just that the present state is really awful.

They are made to pollute the sharing sites for link popularity. I doubt anyone watches them to the end

Actually these are very popular amongst the blind community as they are unable to read text. I do agree though that generally they are cheesy videos but my opinion is that they will improve in time. Personally i still prefer to read it.

Machine produced videos are really fast and if one
just wants the exposure - it serves its purpose.
I've always preferred human doing the voicing though
    and that's a service which I offer =)

Check out the link in my sig if you wanna find out
    more.

There appears to be a lot of "video for video's sake" being produced at the moment regardless of whether the content is appropriate for the medium.

I joked in a recent thread about "What's next - a video of a book with someone turning the pages?"

And the very next day I found just that. The "video" consisted of static images of plain text and background music. The text was not even narrated. Apart from the "video" there was no other content on the page.

Now come on, what's the point of that?

Written text, images and diagrams, audio tracks and video all have their place but cross-pollinating everything just for the sake of it?

They're the fastest way to get you banned from Google.
That's probably a good thing as I am guessing plenty of people consider these "videos" as spam.

Actually these are very popular amongst the blind community...
I think you're talking about screen readers right? Which enable text to be read out for a blind person at their preferred speed and tone. Such videos as discussed are most definitely a step away from web accessibility.

Machine produced videos are really fast
and easy. So be prepared to see a lot more of this kind of thing.
