Looking to setup a forum on my popular game blog

I run a fairly big gaming news site we'll just say high xx,xxx uvs daily. We're looking to setup a forum on the site but are unsure how to market users to post it in.

Most of our traffic are users reading our news articles from organic search, they normally just read then leave the site(or clicking ads etc.)

What would be the best way to grab there attentions in participating in the forums and being active.

We are also thinking of using IPB forum or Xenforo.

Any suggestions, tips or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hold rewards/contests, make sure to post daily and try to keep the forum as active as possible to get others to post.

Far as setting up the forum goes, Matthew Woodward's got a great tutorial here (using Wordpress):

Wow man - CONGRATS on the traffic.

Honestly it's going to be easy for you.

Add a visible link in your main sites menu encouraging people to check out the forum, and start making posts there and linking TO them from the regular articles/blog posts on your site. With your sites traffic and authority you'll build it up in no time

If you've built a list (like you should have) from your traffic, you can also email your regulars and ask them to sign up and start posting.

Worst Case Scenario - Start making posts there yourself, and use 10-15 fake accounts to start responding and generate "conversions" - once it looks busier real users will chime in and it'll grow itself

    Good luck

We haven't built a list only purely relying on ads to keep us going for now. Should we mention to use our forums for discussion in each article? Or will it look to spammy?

If i were in your position instead going for forums to generate extra income i would go for something like gaming magazine, or cheat booklet something to get this huge traffic to my email list
I think you can leverage it better that way

You can post an ad about your forum and also talk about your forum in your articles this may help to take traffic to your forum.

Just post some valuable content on the forum, like how to do X on Y game. I'm forever finding forums to help with my Sims Freeplay questions.
