Default The How To -> Quickly Ping Any Open Page In Seconds! Time Saver Tip/Trick!

Hey,

This little trick i use will save you alot of time in the long run and will allow you to simply click the bookmark on your browser and then it will automatically add in the url and other details into ping-o-matic and also ping it without you having to enter in any other details or click on anything else.

I use it all the time when i am building backlinks and also when i make new sites or release new articles.... in other words whenever i create something new.

For people who don't know what pinging does it basicly tells blogs and other sites around the internet that your content exists and/or has been updated or changed. Then google bots and other search engine bots see the changed content alot quicker and so index it even faster than ever before.

Don't over do it and ping over and over again and some sites are set to automatically ping such as ezinearticles and so it will show an error message saying you have done it too often (this wont damage your rankings etc)

So the code is:
Code:
javascript:location.href='http://pingomatic.com/ping/?title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'&blogurl='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&chk_weblogscom=on&chk_blogs=on&chk_technorati=on&chk_feedburner=on&chk_syndic8=on&chk_newsgator=on&chk_myyahoo=on&chk_pubsubcom=on&chk_blogdigger=on&chk_blogrolling=on&chk_blogstreet=on&chk_moreover=on&chk_weblogalot=on&chk_icerocket=on&chk_newsisfree=on&chk_topicexchange=on&chk_google=on&chk_tailrank=on&chk_bloglines=on&chk_aiderss=on&chk_skygrid=on&chk_audioweblogs=on&chk_rubhub=on&chk_geourl=on&chk_a2b=on&chk_blogshares=on'
Then just simply add that code as a bookmark (varies in firefox and ie). Click below To See How You Add a Bookmark!
> Firefox
> Internet Explorer

Hope this helps people.

So we simply bookmark the enclosed code and then click on this bookmark when we want to ping a new blog/site/profile/etc?

Do we need to input our actual desired URL anywhere in that code? Im a bit confused even though I shouldn't be lol....

Nope it does it all for you....

So all you do is bookmark that code... then open up the page you want to ping. Click the bookmark and then it will go to the ping page and ping it all for you.

Easy and Simple as that.

I linked too things to show you... but you can make a bookmark and then edit it if you can't get the full code to bookmark and just the url.

OK from your explanation, I bookmarked the code, then I bookmarked a page I wanted to ping and it is done auto in the background.

How can we check if it is actually doing it?

You bookmark the code.... visit the page you want to ping then while it is open click on the bookmarked code. Then it will direct to the result of the ping site saying its been pinged.

I must have rocks in my head today Tom.... Do you mean copy and paste the code into my favorites? Because ie won't let me do that... How else do I get the code in there?

As said before you can add a custom bookmark/favorite. Or you can edit an existing one.

Do either of the above and it will work.

I didn't think it was that hard but then i have been doing things like this for years now and so is nothing to me.

Hope that helps.

I've just done this with FF so I'm not sure it will work with IE, and I am not going to open it to find out. The sooner it follows Dracula to the grave the better.

Just open a new tab and paste the code into the url box. Then click on the code. If that doesn't select it all, press ctrl+A. Then you can drag it to the bookmarks folder you want.

If that doesn't work for some reason you might try to bookmark it normally since it is now in the bar, but don't try to go to the page first because that changes the code.

It might just be tedious details but I always find them interesting.

best wishes, lloyd

1. In firefox, right click a Bookmark folder and select "New Bookmark".

2. Add a name (I used Ping)
Paste the "code" into the location field. (Select All inside, right-click and Copy)
Code:
javascript:location.href='http://pingomatic.com/ping/?title='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'&blogurl='+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+'&chk_weblogscom=on&chk_blogs=on&chk_technorati=on&chk_feedburner=on&chk_syndic8=on&chk_newsgator=on&chk_myyahoo=on&chk_pubsubcom=on&chk_blogdigger=on&chk_blogrolling=on&chk_blogstreet=on&chk_moreover=on&chk_weblogalot=on&chk_icerocket=on&chk_newsisfree=on&chk_topicexchange=on&chk_google=on&chk_tailrank=on&chk_bloglines=on&chk_aiderss=on&chk_skygrid=on&chk_audioweblogs=on&chk_rubhub=on&chk_geourl=on&chk_a2b=on&chk_blogshares=on'

3. Navigate to the page you want Pinged.
4. Click the bookmark you created. Done.

lol... I prefer dragging it into my custom bookmark toolbar. But I've learned that some people are more visual and need screenshots.

Superb shortcut btw...thanks for this tip!

Hey Tom,
Cool idea .. I just got this though..

408 Request Time-out

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'.

Anyone else get this issue ??

Edit: when I reloaded the url I got this ..lol
Slow down cowboy!

Your last ping was less than a few minutes ago. Please only ping us when you update your blog/website!

So must have worked the first time just had some server glitch..

Yeah you get the 'slow down cowboy' to protect you from over pinging the same site/page. Also some sites automatically ping every few minutes or whatever so you don't need to ping them.

I was able to ping a maximum of 2 sites on a shared host before I got denied.
Then a ping on a separate VPS host ip worked. So it's definitely not your home IP it's using.

So you can only ping 2 sites a day or so I believe. It may be less than 24 hours...but my attempts a few hours apart did not work.

Never had that problem myself but i never really update my sites that often and the ones that i do are auto pinged anyhow.

Thanks Tom for this tip and thanks also Blue Squares for explaining it step by step. Will this also work for squidoo lenses?

I created a lens a week ago and it still isn't indexed so am wondering if this would help it get indexed?

Thanks

This is cool. Remember folks, it's not just for pinging your own stuff - anywhere you can score a backlink (blog comments, forums, etc) go ahead and ping that page to make sure the link gets crawled and you get your credit.

I normally submit the feeds of the sites I comment on regularly to take care of that, but this is a GREAT tool for one-offs. Killer man, Thanks!

Too Right Keith!

It will mean that your backlinks get indexed alot quicker if you ping them! Plus thanks for the comment about submitting the sites feeds because i forgot about that.

Thanks Tom for sharing. I have a couple of questions

- Can we ping the profile URL (the one we create on other high PR sites to get backlink).
- How do you ping automatically from code e.g. wordpress blog

Hi Tom,

Thank you very much for this tip.
It's a real time saver and it's something
that most of us would never think out
by ourselves.

Would you mind explaining Keith's comment
about submitting feeds of the sites where
he leaves comments?

Is it simply submitting the feed of the blog
where you commented to RSS feed aggregators?
If it is so, what's the difference between
submitting the feed and simply pinging that
page?

I'm not Tom, but I'd be happy to explain what Keith meant.

Yes, you are exactly right - if you comment on a blog, most blogs have a comment feed. If you have a comment in a feed, and that feed has a link back to your site, take that feed and submit it to RSS aggregators.

And ping it too. Technically, you can ping the actual page AND the RSS URL.

You can ping anything. A ping is just a notice that says "hey, this page has some new content on it, you should come by and index it (possibly again)" It's a single event. Now some blogs have a pinging mechanism, so that when you publish it automatically "pings" the new page every time.

That's not the same way aggregators work (or at least, you don't utilize them for quite the same reason.

When you submit your feed to aggregators, most of them will then just monitor the feed and when there is new info, it will pull it and republish on its site, in its own feeds, etc. Then those get scraped and republished, which benefits you.

It's true that some aggregators are ping sites too. Some just do one or the other. But the reason you do both is different. The ping will get your pages (and your backlinks) crawled and indexed and counting towards your rankings. The RSS submission will spread your actual content to be republished on other sites.

When it does, go ping THOSE places too, and if they have a feed that your link shows up in, submit that one too.

You don't HAVE to do these things, but it certainly helps. Pinging used to be kind of a pain in the ass, but now with this bookmark, it's not. Submitting the RSS feed manually for every site you post is also kind of a hassle, and you also want to do it fast so that your content is actually still in the feed when you submit it. I've been using Big Mike's RSS Bot to do this for feeds I don't own, while still manually submitting my own RSS feeds.

There's not so much a set reason for that other than I already have a systematic submission process in place for my own sites, so I haven't started using RSS bot for that yet.

Anyway, hope that clarifies things - pinging and RSS submission are related, and sometimes combined as a service, since you can kind of use the RSS feed to tell you, "hey this site got updated and needs a ping". You can see how if you owned a pinging service, that might be a handy shortcut. But as the webmaster, there are different results and reasons for making sure you do both, because there are different benefits.

Hope that makes sense.

Could someone please explain how to do this in ie?

I do not use firefox and I know if I put it on firefox I'll never use it.

I know how to bookmark a site have hundreds of bookmarks but when I copy the ping link and paste it in my browser and click go nothing happens.

I bookmarked this page, saved it as ping and then pasted the herf link in and got a error message saying I cannot use certain symbols.

I feel like a dummy.

Jim

I normally submit the feeds of the sites I comment on regularly to take care of that, but this is a GREAT tool for one-offs. Killer man, Thanks!
If I posted a comment and my link on someones blog that only allowed no-follow links, would pinging that page still help my site?

Sorry but I haven't tried that with IE but you really ought to check out Firefox. Keep IE on your computer so you can check to see how your sites appear with it, but with all the cool Firefox add-ons available, and the speed tweaks you can do, and the fact that you are far less prone to viruses makes using Firefox as your primary browser a no-brainer.

Really cool little trick. I was so sick of going by hand to ping all the new content. Once again, thanks!

No!

You can do it by making a blank bookmark and then editing it and adding in the code.

Then add it to your toolbar or whatever so you just click it easily and then it will ping whatever page you have displayed at the time!

Ok?
