Default Kunaki Payment. Can it be automated???

Hey Internet All Stars!

I signed up for Kunaki, uploaded my DVD to them, I got my free copy sent, now I have setup my shopping cart (Nanacast) which automatically sends the order to Kunaki through XML. So I made a test order to test my processor (which works fine) and to test to make sure Kunaki got the order.

Kunaki got the order but it says that it is "Pending". I used their help section and found out that all orders sent via XML will be held as pending until their cost is paid for with credit card or paypal.

So I paid but I'm wondering...

Do I have to manually do this every time an order comes through or can I just enter my CC once and it will bill it every time automatically?

Thanks in advance. Your answers will help a ton!

~Sean

When you order a test copy of your DVD (which you should) they save your CC info and use it for future deals.

Sean,

I add funds to my account so everything is prepaid. About $100 at a time.

The only other option is to go pay as orders come in or do a daily batch amount.

I would like it to operate this way. I can't figure out how to set it up.

Please explain.

Sean,

I sent this earlier to you but I am sure it may help other people who might want a much better alternative to Kunaki.

Vervante - On Demand Publishing (which also works with Nanacast) bills net 30. This means that anyone can start selling physical products and sell as much as they want and they will be billed 30 days later after they make the sale... and they will bill your credit card automatically.

This is quite helpful for those starting out on a shoestring budget because you collect the payment through your payment processor of choice and it settles in your bank account long before you have to pay the bill for the print.

Also Vervante - On Demand Publishing costs about the same as Kunaki but offers many more on demand services beyond just the cd and dvd Kunaki offers. They can print books, newsletters, cds dvds and packages of disks, binders, and combo packages.

The other great thing about Vervante is unlike Kunaki they offer great customer service to help you get started.

I talked to Vervante and they had great customer service. Kunaki doesn't but the prices between the two companies were HUGE. $1.75 per DVD in a full color pro dvd case @ Kunaki vs. $5.50 per DVD in a little clear clam shell case with no label. Both add roughly $4 shipping on top.

Regardless, Garrie how do you pre-pay?

Login, click the "fund xml orders" at the bottom then in the credit card area, fill it out.

The amount will then be added to your account and go towards future orders.

Thanks for the info Garrie.

So you have a rough idea of how much your orders are going to be and you just enter that much each week?

I just want to add that I LOVE KUNAKI! We still order about 100-500 DVDs at a time and fullfull them ourselves though.

I haven't started to have them send them directly as I like to stuff marketing stuff inside our packages with special deals, etc.

I also beleive you need to just pre-fund your account and you should be good to go.

Seany,

I just add enough for about 20 orders at a time. For me, that's normally a weeks worth.

If you are going to be selling 500+ a month, you should ship them yourself as you will save $3/order, the handling fee.

Vervante shipping is not $4 its much less... they charge only what USPS charges them on each individual order for USPS first class shipping.

Shipping costs with Kunaki will also vary based on where it is being shipped to and the method the client chooses for shipping at checkout.

I just got off the phone with the owner of vervante because I wanted to get some clarifications on their on demand pricing...

Full color label dvd in dvd case with full color case cover: $6.15
Full color label dvd in clear dvd clamshell case: $5.50 - (shipping on this is less than $2)
Full color label dvd in cardboard slip cover: $4.80 - (Shipping on this could be less than $1).

Shipping a DVD via Vervante in a single DVD case is approximately $1.86-$2.03 for 1st Class Mail, International is approximately $4.60 depending on the ship to country.

Your cost can vary depending on what you are having them print and ship as well... for example you can have them print and ship a book with a dvd in a clear vinyl cover affixed to the inside cover of the book and many other combo and multi item variations like disc sets etc.

A full color label dvd in dvd case with full color cover shipped to US or Canada works out to approx $8 which is around $2.25 more than kunaki...

However, there are other benefits such as:

1. No up front payment. You pay net 30 (30 days later) so you can sell as much as you need and never have to worry about payment untill you have collected the money from the sales.

2. Great customer service and free help from their company when you need direction to assist you in getting your first product online.

3. CD, DVD, Books, Binders, Newsletters, multi, and combo packs all on demand (replication services on runs of over 1000 also available).

4. Online UI for looking up orders, tracking codes, and exporting accounting data.

5. Export shipping cost reports per product for accounting purposes with weighted average cost of product calculated since the actual cost of shipping charged is only the actual cost of first class postage from USPS so the shipping price varies.

6. They will list your publications on Amazon and Boarders on request at no extra charge.

7. Customizable packing slip with your personalized logo and other notes and content like return policy support info etc. You can add this via their online UI. No extra charge.

8. Export of customer data for marketing and backup purposes.

---

A lot of people leave Kunaki and use vervante....

The cost of Kunaki vs Vervante for the Full color DVD option is a couple bucks difference only.

Also consider that you can recover any additional cost by raising your charges on shipping and handling as all are passed to the client. Only your own tests and cost evaluations will show what the best choice and best price point will be.

It sounded like you may have misunderstood the actual shipping costs since what you stated was not what Cindy would have told you for vervante.

If need the flexibility of having no up front payments and you want the benefits of a company that has customer service... then vervante is a good pick.

Does anyone know of a cheap or free way (shopping cart / script) for integrating the whole order process with paypal and kunaki?
customer pays -> paypal -> your site/script sends order to Kunaki
preferrably one that doesn't tie up the ipn or can share it.

I looked at the mentioned nanacast and at $97/month it's a lot for a beginner.

The one I can think of that automates this process with Kunaki is DiscMojo...

I've tried Kunaki automation scripts before and there's a big problem with them. If the customer does not click the "Return to Merchant" button or wait for redirection after their purchase, the script does not order a CD/DVD from Kunaki successfully. Of course, the only way you find this out is a few weeks later, when an angry customer emails you, demanding to know why they haven't received their product.

The way I've gotten around this is to simply hire a virtual assistant (you can hire them for $3-$4 an hour) to process orders.

And I agree with the other posters - Kunaki is great! I have searched the web high and low for another provider that offers CD printing in a full-color DVD case with shrinkwrap, and Kunaki's one of the only ones - and their prices can't be beat, especially if you are drop shipping them one-by-one.

Their only problem is that, as mentioned here, there's no way to automate the funding of your account. Maybe if they get repeated requests for that, they'll add that feature!

Hey Keith...

That is not a problem with Nanacast. Once the payment is placed the request is sent.

I can't see why any script would rely on return to merchant being clicked... that would be a mistake.

http://nanacast.com can automate vervante, kunaki, and disk.com

We can do one time, micro continuity, or physical item continuity programs like print newsletters, dvd of the month/book of the month. We also have real time physical product broadcast where you can have a subscriber base and broadcast physical on demand products to your subscriber base or even individuals.

Does anyone have a script or software I may use for free or buy to integrate Kunaki with 1shoppingcart? I can pay for help with setup etc... (Please PM me).

The products I have found out there seem rather expensive, and I would rather pay for someone to help me, then to get a product with no support.

Many people dump 1sc for nanacast since we provide on demand integration with several services including Kunaki built right in and a lot of other features people want that 1sc does not provide and of course we provide support... but the good news is that you will not likely need it since its so easy to do and no scripts to install.

So you could have something that does what you want out of the box without having to install and worry about supporting any scipts for the same price you are paying for 1sc now if you made the switch ;-)

Josh,

thanks for Vervante idea. They have an easy integration with 1shop and Infusion. I liked this on their page:

"1ShoppingCart customers: add our part number in the SKU field, and then add [adress] to the email distribution. Home >> Setup >> Orders >> Notifications"

Will signup with them

Thanks for letting us know about the alternative Josh.

As for nanacast, do you need the gateway account like 1SC or it just works with paypal?

Yesterday I was going to take the free trial, but that stopped me.

Thanks for help.

Yes, we work direct with:

Paypal, 2checkout, Authorize.net, NMI, Durango Merchant Services and any other gateway that offers an Authorize.net emulator.
