Client question:

Is it possible to create unlimited email addresses based on client company names, but with a constant suffix? (I guess we might need to own a hidden domain which acts as the backdrop for creating the email addresses.) This is for when we email out as if we're the client.

Fictitious examples to illustrate the above:

admin@company1.payments.net

admin@company2.payments.net

What he means by this is can we create subdomains for all their individual clients to
email their employees on behalf of their client (to appear as if they are the client).

My concern is whether this is going to be flagged as spam in mail filters or if the site would get blacklisted for having so many subdomains.

What would a better work around be? simply having company1@payments.net instead of admin@company1.payments.net

Your client could do this, but things will get very messy after a while. For one, the web host may have limits on how many subdomains can be created.

Remember, not only will a subdomain be created, but also a folder in the website's root to be associated with the subdomain. So if a contractor/employee were to go to company1.payments.net, they would see an empty site which would look unprofessional or at least a bit strange.

If you were to just delete this folder, then if someone were to visit the subdomain, they would just get an error, which is equally unpreferred.

company1@payments.net would be best. Depending on what type of clients they are, your client may even just be able to get an e-mail address at the client's domain. In our contracts with clients, we always specify that we receive an e-mail address at the client's domain for purpose of communicating with other companies in regard to things related to our client.

These dotted urls always confuse me. Better go the conventional way also because it is easy to remember.

You'd need a script that can do this. You'll need to install the script on your domain and create 1000s of mail IDs in a minute.

I have a script that can do this. PM me if interested.

Your problem ultimately with this is that many hosts limit the number of emails sent per hour on your web hosting account. So as soon as you get say 10 clients they may get blocked from sending more emails in any one hour. Can't imagine that would go down well.
