Now track who converted from which source (for free) using hidden UTM parameters in lead forms...!

I learned this recently and it helps me gain a ton of data about who converted from where.

When you are advertising on various sources, do you use UTM parameters? Like this:

warriorforum.com/?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=getleads

Usually you can track goals in google analytics and in the source/medium u can see how many people came from where.

For example, if adwords is giving you more leads then you would focus on adwords more. Some sources will give u a lot of clicks but less leads and customers.

But you know only how many converted from where but not who converted from where.

If you have aweber, mailchimp or any Lead Generation form on your website for lead/email address collection... here's what you have to do...

Hack the form code so that you have hidden form fields on it. Source, Medium and Campaign Name. Prepopulate the form fields with the UTM parameters from the URL and when the user submits the form, the other details get submitted along with the name and email.

Now at the end of the month if you have got 10,000 leads. You can segment the leads which came from a particular source, say adwords and send them a separate email if you want.

If you pick out a single lead, you can know where they came from. Adwords, banner on some website, facebook or twitter.

You can also track how these leads are performing for upsells when they go deeper into the funnel. You will know from where the best customers are coming from.

This data can also be passed into a CRM of your choice if you are selling high ticket items using sales people.

Typically, Kissmetrics ($150/mo), Bizible for salesforce ($250/mo) give this kind of data for you but you can do it for free just with the forms. If you can't do it yourself, just get a coder to do it. (I did it that way)

Hoping to see a WSO on this. Perhaps a plugin for wordpress which collects UTM data automatically on forms?

Have a nice day!
