In my experience, these days, its harder to spot the non-spammers on twitter.

Why do you say that Twitter is finished?

Twitter will only be finished when a better piece of technology will come along and make them obsolete...

Google has a beta in the works to do exactly this...and if anyone can identify and stop spam, its them.

Yes, but Google has come up with better apps to do a lot of things but then marketed them poorly. Also, one of the great things about Twitter is its simplicity. The Google app is much more full-featured but lost that simplicity.

Yeah, the one in that screenshot link in my original post is of
    the real dumbasses.

The good ones are really hard to find.

Oh well, at least we can block the obvious ones

    Try this:

    1. Hot, Sexy picture
    2. Link to an affiliate site
    3. All updates are about making money
with zero interaction with other people
    4. Following bazillion people with 3 updates.

Twitter spammers for sure. Have been seeing
    this for ages.

      Yep, all that too.

Another way to spot them is when they send you a DM that states
"learn how to add 1'000's of followers in no time"

        What a joke! LOL

First time the other day, got hit by an @ spammer. The guy actually send @ notices to a long list of people. Stupid.

The others, I never see as I only follow select few.

Unless these guys constantly DM you how can you assume that a person who has few followers and follows a lot of people is a spammer? I agree that a person who has no picture is not worth following either but I think most of those are too lazy to post one.

This is a spammer to me:
    • Someone who constantly posts links to CB sales pages.
    • Has no other content except for CB links.
    • Someone who mass posts several times a day - like 10 messages at a time with links.
    • Someone who has multiple accounts and does all of the above.

I know of one person who has over 10 accounts that does this. What *IS* surprising to me that each account has over 2000 followers in them. This only means that the people he is sending these messages to want them otherwise they would be unfollowing him.

Here's something to try. If you suspect that a person is using multiple accounts to spam then use Twitter's search feature and search for the links he's using -especially the shortened ones- and you'll find all his iD's.

Twitter's still a mystery to me (it's on my to-do-list) but I really don't like how I keep hearing more and more talk about the spamming of that site... I'm hoping it's just the normal spamming any other site gets and that the buzz is actually getting magnified on it because of the site's nature.

It's pretty obvious to me. If you don't like a spammer then block or unfollow them. That's it. I heard that a person who gets blocked by several people gets their account flagged.

Following spammers is a product of wanting more followers - it happens. Unfollow them if you don't like their messages.

I hear a lot of complaints on hear about people sending affiliate links on twitter . Spam is getting a message you did not request .

If you followed the person you requested the tweets .

Blocking is the equivalent of hitting the spam button on an email when you really wanted to unsubscribe . There is an unfollow feature on twitter use it , but don't limit the use of twitter by blocking everyone that doesn't twitter to your perfect guidelines .

I have some people I tweet with everyday . I retweet a lot of stuff that interest me . I send out a lot of links that are for free stuff. I send out an occasional link to an affiliate program.

Just because I retweet something you said about horses doesn't mean that you should automatically follow me back. It could be that I liked your tweet . It could be that I noticed you had 25 followers and wanted to spread your tweet a little for you . If you look at my profile I warn you that I give lot of stuff away .

Now I hate automatic dm's to the point I hardly ever check my dm's . I can't stand to get 25 buy my shit links in a row . My deal is I follow everyone back that follows me so I am going to get a few of these . If they get to the point that they annoy me I know how to unfollow .

And yes I agree with Jason that the profile is a spammer in disguise . Newbie tweets need to know the signs . Just saying if you follow them what they send you is requested .

Amen to that Troy. You only get SPAM if you follow back. Who cares who follows you!?! You don't see their stuff or DM's unless you follow them back.

I market using Twitter with great success. I get followers all the time complaining and telling me I "SPAM" them. Which I don't... I just share my stuff like all business owners and marketers do. Telling someone about an offer is not Spamming if they decided to opt-in to you and in this case follow you.

The funny thing is... They followed me!

SPAM does not apply to you unless you follow a spammer. If you don't want to follow spammers, then either a) turn off your auto follow, or b) don't follow spammers back.

    Hope that helps!

Not everyone without a photo is a spammer, you know.

I don't have a photo coz it's against my religion.

If I were you and didn't want to be stereotyped as a spammer, I would state this
      in your profile.

Oh, I saw something a couple of days ago...a guy with over 4,000 updates. He uses twaitter and all of his updates are CB products. I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for his captivating photo. I clicked on it and saw all his messages. All for different CB products from acne solutions to real estate info. I guess it's a numbers game for him.

They are typically following 600 or 700+ people and have about 55 or less followers.....

So to me, it appears as if they just created that account, blitzed(i mean followed) as many people as the software let them and then some people actually followed them back not paying attention or because they use an "auto follow back" software. LOL

It's too bad Twitter doesn't put a time stamp next on when the person followed whoever
    they follow.

Would be REAL EASY to spot a spammer.

Yes, there are some interesting characters on twitter. Some people add such value, while other promote biz opp after biz opp. Drives me bananas!

I agree, Ashley. Another thing that bothers me is all the sales pitch DM's I get that are disguised as a "Thank You." Seems like everybody's got something to offer these days--except a helping hand and some good advice.
