A great way to get free images

im not sure if this has already been said on WF, but if you are looking for images you can use for free without needing to pay a fee, do the following on Google

Go to Google images, click on "search tools" then select "labeled for reuse".

All these you can use for free.

I think you probably meant to say "labeled for commercial reuse" as most folk on here will be running an IM business.

    Hi Harvie:

Question for you. How can I label my pictures - for commercial reuse.

These are my very own images. Pictures I took with my own camera.

Just make sure you visit the source of the image before using it to make sure it really is free, don't rely on Google alone. Better safe than sorry.

And if it is free, it's a good idea to give credit to the photographer/copyright holder.

I'd take that one step further. I'd do a drag-and-drop of the image back into Google's image search to see what other sites might be offering free use of an image.

I hate to break to the new folks, but sometimes people fib on the Internet and offer things they don't have the rights or licenses to offer. Hard to believe, right?

I agree with one of the earlier comments, the quality of the photos is normally not very good, you have to really search long and hard for something - of course you could also get lucky.

If you are serious about your business I prefer to pay a few bucks to get something which looks the way I exactly need it to look.

Of course if you are starting out or on an extremely tight budget then I understand this might not always be a possible alternative.

Absurd! People can't lie on the Internet! It's against the law!

I couldn't resist. Especially in a thread that suggests stealing without reading ToS and Copyright information on the Image Owners website. Google can't give you something they don't own... They can only provide you with as much information about the image as they have been given, which may be incorrect in the first place.

Yes the results are poor using that search. Most of the photos look like they were taken using a home camera and aren't the professional look you get on those stock photo sites which charge a fee per image.

Unfortunately it isn't as easy as it seems. Here's what Google's support forum have to say regarding the filter for "commercial use" images...

"Labeled for commercial reuse with modification

Your results will only include images labeled with a license that allows you to copy the image for commercial purposes and modify it in ways specified in the license.

If you find images with the wrong usage rights in the search results, let us know by reporting them in the help forum.

Before reusing content that you've found, you should verify that its license is legitimate and check the exact terms of reuse stated in the license. For example, most licenses require that you give credit to the image creator when reusing an image. Google has no way of knowing whether the license is legitimate, so we aren't making any representation that the content is actually or lawfully licensed."

Google is giving no guarantee that their filtered image search is accurate and you are on your own if an image is, in fact, not free to use. The advanced image search filters are only a starting point in identifying images which are potentially free to use. You need to follow up with the copyright owners and ask them, not Google, if the images can be used with no restrictions.

I think it's worth it to pay a few bucks for a high quality stock photo that you know you're getting the license to use. The quality of the free images is usually lacking (there's probably a reason they're free).

I have created a list of about 75 free images sites, including Wikipediaublic domain image resources - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However, you know what I do in real life? I budget $500 every year at 123RF.com and Dreamstime.com ($250 each). Based on my usages, I pay $1.00-$1.50 each for the photos I need, and I don't have to waste time looking for freebies.

My time is more important and valuable to me, so it's great to pay a buck or so for a photo. The selection is always excellent at these two sites.

Sorry to seem unkind, but this is probably the worst advice I have ever seen here. It is dishonest to steal. Licensing products is not "technical stuff" --it is how business is conducted legally and the right way of going about it.

The idea that stealing is okay because you may be able to get away with it is exactly what every crook thinks. Also, giving credit to something you have stolen is meaningless. Crime doesn't pay on any level-- here is the story of someone who had to pay $4,000 for illegally using a $10 image: Legal Lesson Learned: Copywriter Pays $4,000 for $10 Photo | Webcopyplus Web Copywriter Blog

There are plenty of public domain and legally available images under a Creative Commons License on the Internet. Care enough about your business to be an honest person, even in the so-called small things.

A great paid wordpress plugin that I use is WP Quick Pic Studio.

It installs on a wordpress website where it gives you access to thousands of high quality public domain images that are copyright free and can be used on your site.

This tool saves me so much time - as I no longer have to search the internet looking for images.

      Hope this helps.

Why take the risk? Far better to go to somewhere like BigStock and purchase the image legally. Then you have proof that you can legally use it. I have used many BigStock images, they are usually very good quality and are offered in a range of sizes although I don't think I have ever used more than the smallest size offered.

    ************************************************** ******************************

Apparently this is wrong. I did this and noticed that a lot of those pics under the reuse section are flicker and all flicker photos have their own rules.

    Briefly...

    Attribution means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work - and derivative works based upon it - but only if they give you credit.
    Noncommercial means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work - and derivative works based upon it - but for noncommercial purposes only.
    No Derivative Works means:
You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.
    Share Alike means:
You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.

Which is kind of confusing anyway, which of those can you use unmodified pics and put them on your website that is commercial(affiliate marketing?) and not have to give credit?

    Flickr: Creative Commons

here you can search under each category and here you can use search and check boxes at bottom:
    Flickr: Advanced Search

I am even more confused now. lol
