Do you know a DMOZ editor?

It takes a long time for the sites to get approved, is there a way to speed up the process through a friendly DMOZ editor?

Thank you

    Is DMOZ still active?

I don't think I've ever gotten anything listed in DMOZ. I assumed everyone had lost interest in them these days, though I guess some companies still use their results for search or listing content on their own site.

    cheers

Have you tried clicking on the Editor's name at the bottom of the page and sending him a note? If he is unresponsive, you could also message the Editor in the category above him. Usually the Editor of a bigger section is more senior. You could politely mention that the junior Editor is taking weeks and is unresponsive, etc.

I used to be a DMOZ Editor, and it is a mysterious place. Many complex discussions take place within the Editor's forums. A lot of time is burned up talking about the structure of the directory, the nature of information, possible conflicts of interest, what constitutes stealth marketing, etc. This leaves little time to actually edit.

Amen to that, I had the same luck. That's why contacting an editor seems like the only way.

    Thank you, great info!

For what it is now, dmoz is not worth the pain. A couple of years ago it was a significant factor, which it no longer is. The overall impression dmoz produces is that of corruptness.

I heard the opposite. I heard it is a good source for backlinks because of the human editing factor. Google sees it as a strong BL because they know it was reviewed and approved by a human.

Good be bad info that I heard though.

I can't speak from experience because I haven't used it, but I do a lot of reading and since getting online it has been mostly forums. At first is was a really frequent recommendation. Then after awhile a lot of questions about the lack of speed and even the honesty behind it, and for a long time now nearly every comment I've seen has been "Don't even bother."

The consensus seems to be it just isn't worth the time these days, although it was a force hundreds of internet years ago.
