Help Wanted To Get Out Of Mess

Hi folks,

It's been a long long time since I last visited the warrior forum. Maybe about 9 months. (Well, the 487 posts that you see under my forum handle are mostly posted in the old forum)

In the past 9 months, quite a few things happened (both my mother and mother-in-law passed away, I got divorced) that contributed to me staying away offline...

Anyway, now that I'm ready to pick myself up, I needed help from fellow warriors.

Here's my situation now...

Currently divorced and unemployed, I do have a savings that I can survived on for the next 6 months at least or I can use it to invest in IM. The thing is... there is no margin of error for me now. I mean... I can try things, but that's gonna cost me time and money. Time, I have. Money, I don't have a lot.

I have been through the days of "adsense junk sites" (old timers should know what this means). I myself had my background in computer hardware servicing and network administration. I am able to do web scripts installation (anything that goes through cPanel and ftp, I'm fine). What I don't have is programming skill and writing skills.

On hand, I am able to invest about US$2k in this new venture. My preference is to build content websites, gain traffic & revenue and then flip it. This has nothing to do with the "site flipping" craze that's going on nowadays. Mainly, I had done it before last years and now I'm still living off from the residual income from those sales. Hence, I recognise this model work and wanted to expand on it.

But, having stated my preference, I'm open to options.

Can anyone help? From all the readings that I've done, I'm kinda lost now. Please take this post as a plea from ex-warrior looking to pick himself up.

Thanks for reading.

    Hi Richard,

I know where you are - I've been there myself.

My recommendation to you is to use your technical knowledge to offer professional services to on and offline (especially) offline businesses to enable them to get online. You already know all about hosting and the technical stuff, you can build a residual income from charging them for hosting and as many other services as you think they could use (having a blog, a website, an email system etc...).

You can outsource anything you can't do (just make sure it at least costs less than they're paying you for it).

This way you can use some of your cash to get business cards made and start speaking to local businesses.

This give you MUCH more control over your income that flipping sites - which you can also do alongside this.

I am sorry to hear about your painful year but it sounds like the bad stuff is behind you now and I wish you well with the future.

I agree a lot with the advice Andy has given you but also, I would recommend that you look at writing a technical guide of some sort that matches your skills. Take a look at Amazon and see what is top of the bestsellers list in the technical skills that you have and write a similar ebook or 2 to sell on clickbank. You will need to find a place online where your target market hangs out and put your new guide in front of them.

This is a really condensed description of the procedure but there is a lot of good advice on this forum about getting an information product written and promoted.

Right now you can use your technical knowledge for professional work. Don't forget about the article marketing. If you have your own site then use articles to gain traffic on your site. I think this gonna work for you, but as you have told money constraints so you have to take the final decisions. Wishes...

Get a website out there advertising your skills. Do some seo work and target your local area. Do some offline business.

Don't spend money on courses and memberships. While some offer value, they won't help you start a business with solid-foundations in less than a few months.

If this doesn't work, you should consider getting a job. I know this is easier said than done but "scared money" rarely helps when you're trying to build a business. You'll make a lot of mistakes since you would probably be going for the quick profit instead of the long term, sustainable business.

    Good luck,
    Tyrus

How open are you to learning a new programming technology ? iPhone programming in particular ? Also - try cashing in on the CPA craze. Check out Elance and other type of sites for quick projects / fast cash. And, ofcourse start a blog.
