Membership site ideas

Hey everybody.
I am in a funk and need some ideas.
I am looking to start a membership site (non internet marketing) and need some ideas on niches and sub-niches too.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you ahead of time!

    Free or paid?

Just about any niche can have membership, just as long as members get "more" than non members...

    Best of luck

After 20 years smoking, ecigs FINALLY help me quit!
Quit smoking today, and use that money to invest in IM

This really boils down to your interest and area of expertise, you have to offer something special and unique to bring to the table. And only you can decide that. Think about what you are a paid member of and what you feel others would pay for and that's a good start.

Don't rule out free member sites (Facebook is a. Prime example)

So what are your skills or interests...

I was thinking in the weight loss niche.
What I am really looking to find is what makes money in a membership site arena other than the IM niche.

            Value...

Give them a reason to pay for YOUR service.

What can you do in the weight loss niche that's unique? Why should i, as a large man, pay you for your service? What can you offer me?

I can find free info and recipes all over the web. Countless free apps (such as loose it, etc) but what would be different with yours?

How about me calling you at 2am when I want chocolate cake ... I don't see any free hotlines out there....

Fact is nobody can give you a solid answer because of all the variations, especially with strictly paid memberships. Hope I shed some light on something. Just my $.02

Don't you think he'd get tired of delivering all those early morning cakes to you and everyone else?

              Mark

PS I love the hotline idea for help overcoming eating urges. Never thought of that before.

I think the best membership web site you must build is where you can give theme a step by step courses about hot niche like make money online, weight loss tips, getting traffic, martial art courses, free weekly or monthly PLR,..................

I'll give you a great example of a guy who does a membership site right.

I'm learning to draw as a hobby and I joined a membership site that helps beginners draw. The guy who runs it has DOZENS of detailed videos on the basics of drawing that take you step by step through the process. He also has a ton of resources, like PDFs for different drawing methods, pictures of models for life drawing, a forum and you can submit your art for the community to see and get feedback. He also will critique your work to to help you improve. He also sends all new members a DVD with bonus tips.

    He offers a 10-day trial for $1. After that it's $19.99/month.

With all the resources online for learning to draw, why pay for a membership to a drawing website?

    1. Drawing is obviously his thing. He's a pro. It's obvious he has a passion for this and it lends to his credibility.

    2. The videos he makes are very detailed, more so than what I've found for free, like on YouTube. He also uses Photoshop to help explain the concepts he's talking about.

    3. He also makes available a lot of other resources to members that you'd normally pay for in books and stuff.

    4. There are NO up sells. $19.95/month is it. No "extra" features for a few dollars more or anything like that.

    5. No email marketing. I received my confirmation email and a receipt when I paid my membership fee. That's it.

    6. Videos in the membership area can be downloaded as a podcast, so if you decide to cancel your membership, you still have the videos.

    7. The videos are professional quality. It's obvious he has invested money in good equipment. He's also invested time in editing.

    8. Constant updates. He listens to the subscribers and adds stuff people want to see, or makes other changes as needed without sacrificing quality.

I can count on one hand the number of membership sites I've joined. And it's this quality and quantity of resources that made it easy for me to open my wallet for this particular website.

So why did I just post all this?

Because I think what I listed above are the ingredients for a great membership site that brings in new members regularly and retains old ones.

People need to get something above and beyond what they can already find for free online when they join a membership website. What that entails exactly depends on the niche. But I'd find something you're passionate about to build a membership website around, not just a niche that's "hot" right now. People will sense your passion and if it's just not there (ie. you're doing it solely to make money and not because you love it and want to help others), it'll drive people away...fast.

There's a lot of niches out there. Find one you love and put your heart into it.

I'll add a few things as well. Get as much feedback as you can from your members (what they want added to the site, what topics interest them, etc). Do this and you'll never have any problems adding content/value to your site. You also want to stay up to date with what's happening in your niche/industry.

People may find info for free online but most people like the comfort of having all the research done for them and sent to them via email list or membership site. This is one of the reasons people join lists and membership sites because someone else is doing the research for them. Great idea.

Since you don't have something specific in mind, if you're looking or a low-hanging fruit, go for the pain. Where are people suffering and how can you help them?

You should find an interesting niche for your membership site, such as: How to Pick up Girls or something. With a funny / interesting youtube video, you may boost your business.
