Commission Junction Newbie Question

Hey everyone,

I have a question I hope someone can help me out with regarding affiliate links from CJ. The problem is that my site works by pasting an affiliate link on the backend which corresponds to a button on the user end that says "Visit Merchant." The problem is that the links for products on CJ aren't "plain" but contain images and html code. I can see the part in the code that has the url which I need and could just copy it but next to it is the following:

You must include all the above html in your links. Any missing html, including the image source, will prevent the link from tracking properly and result in a loss of commissions.

So is there no way I can just get the part of the link I need and still have any potential sale track back to me? In case I have confused you, I just need the httP://.... part. I hope that made sense because I'm a newb and don't know all the terminology.

    • If you modify link code in any way other than via the advanced options provided when getting JavaScript or HTML links, please be aware that Commission Junction is not responsible for tracking (or lack of tracking) through your modified links, and you are doing so at your own risk.

    • Modification of text in links or banner size is generally prohibited and not recommended. However, in some cases you may be allowed to do this, but only after receiving approval from the advertiser.

Don't you think the intelligent thing would be to contact CJ with this question

If it bothers you than you can use pretty links for wordpress or something to mask the links.

If you just need the link, choose the "Text link" option on the "get link" page. Don't choose banners. They'd have the extra stuff with them. Take the text link and if you still find extra stuff in that cut off the "resource" section. That one only pulls the image or text style associated with the image. Just copy the affiliate URL up to the hop ID.

If you need help PM me.
