Greetings everyone.

I just want to know the best place to start for a new IMer. Is it with learning cpanel? how to build a website? how to make a squeeze page? or just learning all the techie stuff first before doing anything?

And can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't take the same lame blind regurgitated "build squeeze. get autoresponder. market to list" because the reality is that less than 5% of the people who say that actually make money doing that.

If I were to start over again, I would start by reading John Caples "Making Ads Pay".

It gives you the foundation you need to understand exactly what and how to do what you need to do.

Once you understand that, you'll know what to do.

This is what I would honestly suggest and it's how I got started:

Turn off the computer. Go out to the bookstore or library. Find books on marketing, business development, productivity, management, finances, product development, and anything else that seems applicable.

Read them, even if you don't buy them. Absorb it. Think on it. Apply that information.

I know it's not quick or easy but it will build long term success. Most of the material aimed at newbies you'll find is rehashed material from much better books. It's not true for everything, of course, but you'll get more valuable information from books like The 4 Disciplines of Execution or The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing then a "QUIT YOUR JOB TODAY!" title.

Depends what you want to do really. I started publishing Kindle ebooks and starting making over $500 from just a few books. It is not a get rich quick scheme but it is the easiest way to make money online in my personal opinion. You could also setup a blog based around teaching something someone else would like to know! I am sure you will get your answer on the warrior forum as lots of people will help you out!

    Hey there friend,

Though learning a little about the tech stuff does become important at some point and it is good to know. It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish, but here's my advise...

Pick a hot market in one of the big 3
    1. Make Money
    2. Health
    3. Relationships
Start a blog and write your first post as an intro to you and state that you're on a journey to accomplish (x) result in your chosen market.

Next, pick one method to learn that will help you get closer to that main goal that you stated. 1. Learn that one method, 2. Then implement that method and record the results, 3. Teach others on your blog and all over the internet what you just learned and achieved.

Drive traffic (social media, forums, solo ads, etc.) to your content.

Once you have enough content and presence online you're now in a position to repackage what you've learned and sell it as information products.

Cool? This training is free for today

Good advice here, I would take this route.

At the risk of being controversial (and no offence meant to anyone) I cringe every time a newbie gets advised to build a list.

A newbie wouldn't know what to do with a list.

Take the advice given above, get an online presence, make some mistakes, gain some experience and gain some knowledge, THEN start thinking about building a list when you impart some wisdom and/or help to others

One mistake is to follow the advice of "building a list".

A list is NOT a list. A list can be many things.

If you get a pdf made and offer it as a free download, your LIST is a number of skeptical seekers, highly suspicious of anything you do.

If you make a pdf and sell it, and make a list of buyers, you have a LIST of buyers...people who have given you cash to see what you offer...this list of buyers is golden, if you know how to treat people with respect, and give them their heart's desires.

So, the adage, "the money is in the list" is flawed...the potential for money is in the list - but you need to know the list, its needs and wants, and deliver on the desire of that list. The results can be profound.

I started looking into Internet Marketing at the start of last year and my first piece of advice would be to put your credit card away!! There is a wealth of free information out there and I made the mistake of purchasing many eBooks and following so called guru's that ended up wasting a lot of time and money on outdated, potentially damaging content.

Learn about Google and the Panda Penguin algorithm updates!
This is a steep learning curve that is constantly changing and you must learn the fundamentals before you can grow. Take one step at a time:
          • Investigate niches
          • Buy a domain/hosting
          • Build a website (I would recommend getting to know/love WordPress)
          • On / off page SEO
          • Ways to drive traffic.
When I started on my journey I started to write down the things that I found and ended up making a website aimed at the person I was last year starting out with tips, tricks and pitfalls. You're welcome to have a look. www.growrichwhilstyousleep.com

Do the same as me by recording your experiences so you can learn from mistakes and look back to see how far you've advanced.

Good luck & I wish you well

The best place to start would be to mentally
prepare yourself to understand the importance
    of list building.

Grasp this concept early on - it will benefit you.
Once you fully understand this importance
then you can start on some hosting, and setting
    up your website/blog.

I feel that having your list building plan in place
prior to launching your site is more efficient.

A place to start? It's embracing your impending failure.

It took me tons of failures before I realized how Freelance Writing works. I'm now into IM and I will be expecting more failures to embracing.

Start by picking a niche, like listed above it's usually Make Money, Relationships, and etc. Afterwards create a site. It doesn't matter if it's free or paid. Dedicate your first months to experimenting the hell out of IM (don't waste money though) or get a mentor to make failures faster.

Just keep browsing the forums. I have been looking at various articles online and I can say that the information here is the best you can get when you're starting.

    Hey Max,

What you need to do is to educate yourself on what you should do to master internet marketing.

The one thing you need is a mentor who will guide you through.

There are a few physical books on making money online that are on the market that you can buy and learn from.

It is all about the direction you want to take.
Do you want to sell your own product or service?
Do you want to sell other peoples products or services?
Did you want to make income from showing ads to people?

My advice is to have an idea of what you want to do first and plan it out.
What information/skills do you need to know
How can you execute it effectively

Do that first and then learn the techie stuff

    NO list building. NO website.
JUST use youtube, facebook, twitter, pinterest, googleplus and any social media for FREE... or WARRIORFORUM.COM as always ... and sell your ability there.
    Can you draw?
    Can you photograph?
    Can you write?
    Can you speak?
    Can you talk?
Can you teach something.. even stupid thing?

The first place to start is your own brain.
What do you have inside it?

I made $500/monthly (still works now since a year ago) with just 1 video on YouTube promoting just 1 product. No list, no site, no email, no solo, not even advertise it. Just make it and leave it.

I made more with just 1 service thread here in WF and still get customers. And this make me busy enough to forget the difficult stuff like make a list, website, landing page, etc.
That's for more in the future when you are ready.

But take the first step easily! Just make money like people did on fiverr dotcom.

    Good luck.

    Hi MaxforKing,

When starting out it's really easy to suffer from information overload. Especially when everyone's telling you to search the forums. But it's true- everything you need to learn is on this forum. Sure, at first it's a little intimidating researching on your own instead of following a course where everything is laid out for you step-by-step, but even the most comprehensive of courses will have stuff left out. In time, you'll learn to be more resourceful and the unknown will be less intimidating.

Having said that, these are the types of skills you should learn and the respective levels you should learn them at.

    Technical skills-Newbie
These include setting up a squeeze page, baisc HTML, using an autoresponder, using Wordpress,etc...

    Interpersonal skills-Intermediate
This is where you start to network with people, getting JVs and affiliates if you're selling a product/service, and also other skills that require interaction with other people.

    Conceptual skills-Advanced
At this stage, you should have already acquired the know-how on the technicals, and have a solid foundation on IM. You can now start to outsource most of the stuff and put all the pieces in place as you already have the whole IM picture in mind and presumably, have made some money!

Hope that helps, good luck in your journey, DO NOT get attracted by shiny objects

I have to wholeheartedly agree with templar above, in as far as the list goes. However, a list is only as good as what have you done for it lately, and having a list doesn't mean that it will automatically make you money despite what people say about you'll make on average $1 a month per person on your list.

However, in my honest opinion the best place to start is within your own mind. Block out the naysayers, the negativity that people will throw at you when you inform them you are trying to make money online. Keep yourself and your view on the goal ahead, focus on what it is you want, what it is you are trying to accomplish and the reasons you are truly wanting to accomplish your goal and go for it, ask for it when you wake up in the morning and talk to the powers that be.

It took me 5 years to learn that all you truly need to do to start at the best place is to take your first step. There is no best place per say that anyone can tell you, as they are all giving their opinions, including me it seems. Reading in these forums is a GOOD place to start as you will find some very valuable information. As with anything else, you'll need to sift through the dirt to find the diamonds. Good luck in your endeavors.

As a newbie to IM myself, the advice given to 'start building a list' seems rather meaningless. Maybe I've misunderstood something (and would then welcome more advice) but my understanding of how to build a meaningful list is to first have a website, and then to start selling to create a list of buyers/customers, or alternatively offer something for free that people opt-in for/sign-up to etc.

Surely then, the starting place is to research and decide what to sell or offer for free, register a suitable domain, set up a website, promote your product or service which visitors will then purchase or otherwise access via your website, which then allows you to start collating a list.

It also seems critical to me also to understand the target market for your product or service and gear everything to work effectively for that specific market.

So if there are other ways of building a list that newbies can learn and utilise please share those ideas also.
