Could my accountant make money online?

My accountant posed a somewhat hypothetical question to me, the last time we met.

He asked for advice about how he could make money online.

(I don't think he was talking about how to get more accounting clients either. More along the lines of products or information I think).

I want to surprise him the next time we meet in a few weeks and hit him with some great ideas.

If you were a qualified accountant, what bright ideas are there for his skillsets etc?

Thanks.
Sam

P.S. - Who knows, he may give me a discount on his fees, which I am happy with anyway :-)

I think he could, Telegram Sam.

If you search the WF, you'll find threads where IMers have asked for advice on taxation matters concerning their online transactions. These exchanges are usually interrupted by somebody telling the OPer to go and see an accountant (so perhaps "accountant" would be a good search term, if you want to show your guy those threads?).

Sounds like good advice, but I suspect that the number of accountants who are really knowledgeable in matters concerning online transactions across international borders are few and far between. Perhaps this is another opening for your accountant -- as someone who specialises in looking after the books of IMers???

Even better -- if he was up to speed with shopping carts and payment processors, he could make good money advising people how to structure their websites so that -- for instance -- a newbie IMer in the UK could separate EU sales (which are liable for VAT) from non-EU sales (which are not liable for VAT).

    Hope this helps!

I currently have a study course for small businesses that I am rolling out later this summer with about 200 small accounting firms as JV partners (who else has large lists of small business owners?). So, yes, an accountant can make money online w/o even having a product.

Accountants usually have a very long list of business clients.

If you wanted to work and help those clients with their internet marketing your accountant could make a small fortune online just by recommending your services by email and taking a percentage of the fees of every client you get.

It might work even better if he sends them a snail mail or gives them a phone call.

Accountants usually have a ton of specialized information. You could help him create a niched audio helping some particular kind of business or taxpayer with specific tips.

      Then sell the product online.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

        Great idea Andrew,

Here's a potential outline that he could record in an hour of time with a microphone and free version of Camtasia (to record audio but also video too).

        1. Why accounting is important to an online biz (10 minutes)

        2. How to set up your books as a sole proprietor internet marketer (20 minutes)

        3. Tax issues for internet marketer (20 minutes)

        4. 10 fast tips on biz structure and strategy (10 min...one min each).

That audio could sell on Cd for 50 bucks as a WSO or just a plain sales letter!

        Cheers,

        Brad Spencer
