Getting traffic without using traffic exchanges

Hello folks. I'm still rather new to all this and I'm still researching.

Based on what I have tried so far it seems like traffic exchanges are pretty much a complete waste of time. I could be wrong and to be honest I haven't spent a whole lot of time on them but it seems to me you are advertising to other advertisers and you aren't going to get much real traffic to your site just people who click on your links so they can earn traffic points or whatever. There might be some really good and effective traffic sites out there and if there are I would like to know about them but for now it's not something I plan on investing too much time on.

Right now I'm trying to figure the whole blog thing out but I don't see how that will get me a whole lot of traffic in and of itself. Like I said I'm still a newbie so I haven't really done a whole lot yet and I'm still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. Thanks in advance for any advice that is derived from personal experience(and not just "well I think this will work").

Hi Mike I think you might go and get a facebook page set up and then check out like minded people, I am not sure of what you intend to sell, but seekout the many experts on this forum, join in and learn from them, you may have a great product but if you dont tell you wont sell, you have to be prepared to roll up your sleves and do a bit of work, I asumme that you do not want to spend to much cash, but if you have a small budget try PPC.

Run ads. You'll get instant results and it'll let you know quickly if your niche is a niche that is worth pursuing.

I haven't used ads like Craigslist yet. Is that what you are suggesting Randall?

And Philip, I am on fb already but it seems like it's the same thing as with traffic exchanges in that you are mostly advertising to other advertisers. They are doing the same thing you are. I'll try online classifieds though and also check out Alex's link. Thanks guys.

Traffic exchanges don't work well. I tried that a few times without results.

You would be better off going with paid ads like pay per click.
