What to give away for my squeeze page?

I have a product site in the gift industry, and I am having troubles coming up with something to give away in order to start building a list. We only sell 1 type of product now, and it would not be a good idea to give away our product.

Would a "sign up and get a discount on our products" work? Or would a "sign up to win one of our products" be a better choice. I can see downsides to either of these. All someone would have to do is provide a new email every time they bought from us and they could get the discount, and if we did the give-a-way then people might be less likely to buy from us now because they might win the product later [that and we would have to spend time managing the give-a-way].

I really can't think of any kind of report or whatever that we could offer either.

Iduno, any ideas?

My first question is what is your product that you do sell (website)?

You can offer some sort of list of coupon codes or something I guess...

    The site is: www.plaquemaster.com

I apologize for the look of the site. It was created about 11 years ago and it looks it. We will be updating the look and re-SEO'n it soon, I promise.

We sell personalized full-color gift-plaques for many different occasions. We have 12 different backgrounds, 4 different plaque styles, and 22 different categories to choose from. We have categories ranging from wedding and anniversary plaques to retirement and military service plaques.

I thought about doing coupon codes or something like that, but like I said people would just get a new code with a different email every time they shopped. Maybe this isn't something that I should worry about.

I would suggest you target what the customer is doing to give away the plaque?

Are they doing this for events, special ceremonies etc?

Find out what their primary drivers (the giver of the plaque) are and build a free ebook/report on helping them with that. (it doesn't have to be big)

For instance. If the main reason people are giving out these gifts are at a party, give them a report on how to recognize employees for free or tips on multiplying/enhancing the recognition effect.

You need to enhance what they are looking for and give away a free report to get on your list. That way, your list is made of the customers looking to buy what you sell and you helped them in the process...

      Hope that helps!

This has given me some ideas.

I'm I correct in my desire to stay away from giving away products or discounts on products, or is this just irrational?

You are not irrational. Give away something digital like an ebook, pdf or something instead.

It adds value and doesn't take a way from your bank account. - and can be delivered and consumed immediately.

I had always thought of needing some kind of report having to do with plaques or gift giving, and I had no idea what to do. I will look into more of a "fun" giveaway.

You could also have a weekly drawing for all the optins... In one of my golf lists, I do a weekly giveaway for a dozen titleist golf balls or something similar... It is related to the niche, but I dont sell the item. People love it.

These are all some really great suggestions. Now I need to start digging in and researching to put together a good give-a-way.

I don' t see the down side to giving discounts on products, as long as you're still making money. Heck, even if you lose money, it makes sense, as long as you have a back-end that will make money (think loss leader). What's the long-term value of a new client?

As far as somebody using different emails, they're still spending money, right? You could implement some kind of one-order-per-address policy.

    How about...
Top ten most popular gifts (all of them you sell) and to be more appealing you could do it seperateley for men and women.
    'Special offers'
How about including a 'birthday' (ect) reminder that emails them before someones birthday. (Also includes offers)
A 'how to choose the perfect gift' guide. (You will have to work on that one a little but it could increase sales and list buildingquite well)
Any info that will help a large number of your traffic.

Why don't you create an ebook eith a few pictures of the possible reason for having the plaque.

    You've written...

    Business & Organization
    Recognition And Award Plaques

    Personalized Gift Plaques
    For Every Occasion

Why not expand on those themes and give an reason why it could be useful for the different occasions.

In other words, reasons why they need the plaque.
