I sell an e-book on Clickbank and eventually I have piracy problems with sharing sites, but that's no real big deal. I've been in South America last Christmas and I was surprised to see some of Clickbank's best sellers like Fat loss 4 Idiots being sold in Portuguese and Spanish. At first I thought the actual owners were responsible for getting their products translated into other languages, but except for Mike Geary (Truth About Abs), all the other products were stolen, translated and being sold overseas without the owners consent. I was wondering how to deal with a situation like this. I think the international market is the next beg step for many markets that are right now only selling to English speaking countries, but how we shut down a guy that's already selling our products in other countries?? |

You can often file DMCA notices with sites hosting the infringing content, or contact the abuse department for sites like rapidshare.

In many "foreign" countries, you will have to special order any programs that are not pirated. Why is somebody going to pay 300 bucks for a program that they have to wait a couple of weeks for when they can spend two dollars and get it immediately? Unfortunately, in much of the world that is just the way it works. I am not saying it is right and yes, all of my programs are legitimate copies but it is still the way things are done in many countries around the world. |

I understand how to get my products out of sharing sites, that's not the problem! The problem is when people translate e-books to other languages and start selling in other countries as if it was their own, so when you finally get to a foreign market, someone else is already there selling your product! It amazes me that english speaking people don't really care about this issue! Most people in US and other english speaking countries have no idea how huge the foreign market is and in the meantime there's people out there making a fortune with the information products we created! |

This has been going on for many years and will not stop anytime soon.. It is not just info products.. It is also web designs, templates, graphics, scripts, and etc .. Pretty much anything and everything that is put online. Even if you get a site shut down, well a new domain and hosting is only a few $$$ so they go setup shop again and continue... You can slow it down, you can stop "some" sites, but you will never end it. If Apple and Microsoft can not stop it then certainly there is not a great deal we can do about it.. James |

Good Luck! What you want to do is almost impossible. I've been in Japan for 3 years and in my time over here, i've been to the Philippines, Thai Land, Korea, and Taiwan - and this stuff happens all the time. Not only with eBooks, but with purses, clothing, DVDs, CDs, etcetera - RIGHT IN THE OPEN. The thing about it is - It isn't illegal in these countries because 1) No one cares OR 2) The government doesn't have enough money to prosecute it. That's just how it is. And another big thing about this is: How will the author know their product's are actually being pirated? I mean - usually the stuff going on over there doesn't travel in normal channels the author frequents if he is from, say, the U.S. This is just my take - js |
