Clickbank Advertising products with an In-house affiliate id on your purchase confirmation page

by vendor

I just noticed something and it's new to me.
When a customer purchases a product the clickbank purchase confirmation page
is showing ads for other "related" clickbank products.
Clicking on one of the ads sends to that product with an affiliate id that is NOT the affiliate id of the original affiliate that made the sale.
The affiliate id is "CBUPP" and i can only assume it's an affiliate id that belongs to Clickbank.
If i understand this correctly , if a customer buys via your affiliate link clickbank will try selling him more products on their purchase confirmation page but with their affiliate id and not the id of the original affiliate that made the sale.
To me this sounds UNETHICAL and a bad sign.

UPDATE
-----------
After checking a few different vendor accounts (mine and others at random) i found
that the PitchPlus upsells with the same clickbank id "CBUPP" appear on the confirmation page of each and every one of them.
I think this is a system wide change, basically it means that clickbank is now making sales with an in-house affiliate id on top of the Vendor/Affiliate sales by advertising products on the confirmation page with an affiliate id that belongs to Clickbank on Vendor accounts that have no Pitchplus sales flow defined in them.

    Here's more information I found here: https://support.clickbank.com/entrie...-Functionality
PitchPlus provides two tiers of capability: PitchPlus Basic and PitchPlus Advanced. Basic access will enable you to provide one additional offer for a different product within the same ClickBank account.

PitchPlus Basic is available to all vendor accounts. PitchPlus Advanced will allow approved vendors the opportunity to make up to three additional offers to a customer after the initial purchase is completed.

In addition, the vendor may also elect to select products from another account, including one owned by a different vendor.

This cross-sell capability, when combined with ClickBank Joint Venture, allows two vendors to collaborate to gain revenue from advanced ecommerce flows by promoting each other's products.

    Interesting Mike.

I am getting prepared to do my first ClickBank product as a vendor.

Right now, I am bouncing the decision between ClickBank DIY and ClickBankPlatform for my products -- yes, more than one.

      I know about Pitch Plus.
The problem here is that in this instance i am the Vendor of the specific product.
I do not have any Pitch Plus defined on my account (it's empty),
Yet there are still upsells of Pitch Plus on the confirmation page and they
send with an Affiliate id that has nothing to do with me.
I suggest any vendor here should check the same.

Are you running your campaign on the ClickBank Platform?

Let me go check one of mine ... BRB

Okay, I went through the entire process on one of my products and what you are describing is not on my Order Confirmation page. Mind you I just did a test sale so the process went from checkout page to the receipt page. I think in the test environment they do not include the confirmation page, however I do not have a pitch plus setup for this one either.

If you are going to call them tomorrow can you reply to this thread about what you found out?

          Update:
i checked two of my Vendor products on clickbank (different accounts).
Both have no PITCH PLUS defined in them and both have PITCH PLUS upsells
sending to affiliate id "CBUPP" which has nothing to do with me.

          Update 2:
I checked another angle and purchased a product via a different Vendor
          and got the same results.
4 upsells with "CBUPP" on the affiliate id.

THIS IS SYSTEM WIDE ON CLICKBANK

You need to make a "real" sale, i suggest you do so because your feedback is important.
On TEST SALES it is not visible (i know because i ran some test sales yesterday and did not see it).
Just buy your own product via your own affiliate id (important , so you would see that the id is different on pitch plus) .
If you do that, you are out a few bucks in clickbank fees.

          Please let me know

Okay I just did a regular purchase and it went straight from the order page to the "Thanks for your order" page. There was no step between where I had to click to confirm my purchase.

I remember a while back under the old orange color scheme there was a separate page right after the order page and before the Thanks for your order page. And I remember having to click a big button at the top to confirm the purchase but I'm not getting that page here.

I went from the order page to this page:

This is the same page i see, but with pitch plus upsells on it.
      CONFUSED!
(I Checked 3 vendor accounts. 2 of mine and one of a random vendor and all had the same issue).

They could be A/B testing this feature.

The CB page.. I just added the "Thank You For Your Order" page above.

So, I went from the order page (credit card details) to that page above.

I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they are doing here... Because, like you said, if we get no commissions for that space then that's pretty underhanded.

          Me too!
I will call them to see what's going on.
Please update me with any feedback

Did you clear your cookies before making a purchase?

Do you have any funky toolbars on your browser? Sometimes pages can be hijacked using those.

      It's a nice idea.
But i purchased via my own affiliate id and the sale went through
via my affiliate id (i got the commission), however, on the purchase confirmation page there were upsells with a different affiliate id.
It means that the "hijack" created pitch plus sales for accounts that have no pitch plus sales defined on them and also changed the affiliate id on the pitch plus offers.
This can't be done with hijacking..(as far as i know)

Here's a screenshot. I spoke with ClickBank and it sounds like they will be making some adjustments to the program which could be a very positive thing for Vendors.

        Hi Miles
THX for the feedback. I knew i could always count on you for healthy and current clickbank info.
I actually met you once in Affiliate-summit but you probably don't remember.

Anyhow, could you shed some light on this?
what is clickbank doing? why are all the transactions going to affiliate id
"cbupp" (is that clickbank's id?) and why does this lead to good things?

The only thing that comes to mind is if the Vendor or Affiliate id that drove the sale would appear on those links but in any which case this should not be mandatory for the Vendor.

Hey, I probably remember meeting you, but I may need a picture and a name.

Anyhow, I just got off the phone with ClickBank this morning and the official word is they're switching all the nickname's over the vendors, so by default the vendor will be receiving credit for the sales. So vendors can now expect to receive extra income when sales are made of those products.

Additionally as a vendor you can also opt-out if you don't want any ads displayed. Just contact ClickBank or if you have an account rep contact them.

So today they're switching over the nicknames to the vendors. If you can verify this let us all know. I'll be glad to test later as well.

You can opt out of this by logging in to your ClickBank account... Click on 'Settings' then 'My Site' and you will see an 'Automatic Upsells' setting.

Click 'Edit' and un-check the box before clicking 'Save Changes'

Very quiet and sneaky add-on here that not only confused some of our customers but displayed some products/sites that we aren't willing to 'stand behind'

Not everything in the name of 'more profit for vendors' is actually 'better'
