Low Cost Royalty-Free Stock Image Site?

Hey all web designers that design web sites for clients,

Which stock image website do you recommend to obtain LOW COST stock images with extended licenses?

Most stock image websites like Fotolia, Shutterstock, and iStockPhoto, all have extended licenses that's at least $75.

If you are a Graphic Designer that needs a great stock photo to create a flyer for a client, the extended license for prints is probably a lot more than $75.

I know of many free royalty-free web sites with stock images for commercial uses, but these stock images are often of poor quality, and there's not that many choices among them as well.

Any one got any idea around this problem?

Any stock image website with extremely affordable (but great looking) stock photos with low cost extended licenses, so you can use them to design for clients?

Thanks!

It's not exactly free, but by far the best cost-to-quality ratio is fotolia.com I keep recommending these folks!

why pay when you can get free images of excellent quality on Pixabay. The best thing about Pixabay is that you do not require any attribution.

Definitely, do not just take them from Google, some real bad advice there!

    - I see someone beat me to it, but FreeDigitalPhotos.net is a great resource, they do require attribution (a credit link) though, so for commercial work, you'd probably have to still buy the image.

-However, I was watching a guy on YT who designs some decent WP sites, and he states: "Pixabay.com are 100% FREE to use without attribution for personal or commercial use.

Some of the pics on Pixabay do have shutterstock's watermark(?) , so I am not sure about those. If I remember correctly, it says somewhere if you create a free account on Pixabay, all watermarks are removed... don't know if that includes the ones with ShutterStock watermarks or not tho, haven't created an account yet personally. But I have used some decent pics from there.

Actually, you can use Google images. Just use the advanced search feature and filter for "free to use, share or modify, even commercially". You'll still get a pretty good selection and won't have to worry about rights.

Almost good, but you forget that many still do require attribution (a credit link) though. Like the photos from flicker that are FREE to use.

Pexels also has lots of high resolution, quality photos and most do not require attribution. They do have a wide selection which is ever growing. Check them out.

    Pookiepal,

I know the members here are giving you well-meaning advice, but there is a whole bunch of mis-information here that could get you in a real costly mess.

Many of the members commenting don't understand what an extended license is and don't know what it covers.

Even Google images with a "free to use, share or modify, even commercially" usage right isn't totally safe for your use.

    Google provides this disclaimer:

"Note: Before reusing content, make sure that its license is legitimate and check the exact terms of reuse. For example, the license might require that you give credit to the image creator when you use the image. Google can't tell if the license label is legitimate, so we don't know if the content is lawfully licensed."

That's a little unnerving, if you ask me. They're saying that the user needs to "check the exact terms of reuse" and make sure the license is legitimate. How many people will do that, or even know how to do that?

If I were a designer, I would charge the extended license cost of the image to the client as a line item expense and let the client determine how badly he wants particular images.

I know you know some free sites for royalty free images and if you are looking some specific topic could be hard to find the perfect image with free sites but I have some pretty good free websites maybe one of them can help you.

      Albumarium.com
      compfight.com
      gratisography.com
      unsplash.com
      superfamous.com
      getrefe.tumblr.com
      highresolution.photography
      littlevisuals.co
      nos.twnsnd.co
      pexels.com
      photopin.com

Each site have high quality images but the best pictures out there will not be free of course, but at least check these sites and maybe you can save some bucks.
