Which of these names is best for my business?

Hey Warriors!

So I am going to incorporate my Publishing/Internet Marketing business.

I have come up with some good names but I am wondering what I should end the name with?

Technically, we are a publishing company. We work with experts in particular niches and publish and market their work (i.e we publish information products, ebooks, blogs, we may ship out DVD courses/books, etc.).

However, we also do the marketing for those products (and other products we promote on the internet through affiliate marketing)

I have already come up with some good names of the company... But I'm wondering what I should end the company name with?

For example, should it be:

- CompanyName Publishing, Inc.

- CompanyName Media, Inc.

- CompanyName House, Inc.

What are you thoughts on using Publishing vs Media vs House?

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate your input.

Since they all mean essentially the same thing I think it doesn't matter much. I'd make the call based on how easily it flowed with the actual company name.

Thanks for your input Travlinguy. I appreciate it.

I think its safe to say that when people here the word Publishing or House they associate that with publishing (maybe a more traditional publishing house with paper print)...

But what do you think they would associate a business ending with the word "Media" with?
Does that still sound like a publishing company? ...or would people think it's more "news, entertainment, ...or would it be associated with "The Media" which may have a bad connotation"

    What about this name....

Since you said that you are dealing with Publishing/Internet customers, why not add this:

    PubIn Internet Publishing, Inc.

I just took off the Publishing Internet off.

I don't think people care enough about the difference in publishing, or media that it matters, though house is often associated with physical books so I might stay away from that one. Unless, it sounded good with the primary name. I think the most important thing is to have a name that sounds friendly and appealing, one that people will remember.

Just as wild example, say you put out porn. You could name it Pigpen Publishing or Pigpen Press. Those are both interesting and flow well and are even a bit descriptive. Why not let us know the company name? You'd probably get better suggestions that way.

Great input. Thanks. ...and I would let you know but I haven't bought the domains associated with it yet so I don't want to put it out there for all to see yet.

...and I think some of the names I've come up with sound best with "Media" at the end ...but I just worry that it doesn't sound like a Publishing company.

I think any of the three would be fine but I would think "house" would be my last choice. It seems a little outdated and associated with a physical building and physical book, mags, etc.

If all or most of my information was distributed as physical products I would go with 1. publishing or 2. media.

If all or most of my information was distributed electronically I would go with 1. media or 2. publishing.

Media makes people think of TV, publishing is usually magazines or paper.

Please stay away from house as that make me think of a low rent restaurant - John's House
For example - Texas Road House.

All three have possibilities, but that depends on your new company. Media is a winner.

Any one of them really. Dont put too much focus on a business name. Just make the money.

If you want your brand name to be more than just a name, think of who your highest target audience is and what you want to be known for in their eyes.

Now think of the non-boastful way to portray that image with your name.

For example, don't call yourself "high-quality publishing," but do mention something that hints to your obsession with multiple drafts, your staff of writers, your niche specialization, etc.

Names matter a little....there are a lot of great name out there. What you need to do is to prepare/learn how to target the people you want for your business. If i however was to choose i would go with the 1st one.

You guys have been extremely helpful and I really appreciate this great input. Thank you all.

Here's kind of exactly the breakdown of what we do... and you guys tell me what you think:

    - 70% of what we sell will be ebooks. 30% will be video courses.

    - Either way, the customer will buy the product and be sent to an online membership/course area where they can access the ebook(s) or the video course. Sometimes this will be broken down into modules in the "course area".

    - We hope to eventually get into shipping the products too. If this is the case, the customer will either get a real manual/book (i.e. the ebooks will be made into a physical product), or a CD with the ebooks on them, or they will get a DVD with the video course on it.

    - Lastly we will have a regular email newsletter with helpful emails to the customer as well as the occasional offer/promotions.

    - People will typically visit our homepage and see the "sales video" for the product. Traffic driven by us and affiliates. Then if they buy, they will get either access to the membership area where the ebooks or video course will be ...or they will be shipped the physical book(s), CDs, or DVDs

So I think I've narrowed it down to either "Publishing" or "Media" with your alls great help ...but what are you thoughts?

Thank you so much for your input.

As you're hoping to eventually get into shipping actual printed media, I think you should go with the 'Publishing' option. To me the 'Media' option makes me think of dishonest, phone-bugging newspaper reporters and paparazzi!

    TheWebGuy,

Here's my suggestion: Your First and/or Last Name + Publishing or Publisher.

I liked Media. It sounds trendier and more modern. Just my two cents.
