Newbie seeking thoughts on using 'off the shelf software'

Hi people! I’m a newbie to posting here but have browsed the forums for a long time and done a lot of reading and research into keywords, competition etc in my niche. I believe it is has a sizeable audience, is under-serviced and shows promise for introducing new ways of handling old issues.

I’m wondering if anyone could comment on whether it’s possible to create a saleable site using ‘off the shelf software’ (like PHPfox, e-directory etc)…or do you need a corporate office and a crack team of coders to make something saleable?!

I’ve created a few websites via Wordpress and I’m familiar enough with content management systems to manage a site on one of these platforms, but I don't know any coding and basically the concepts aren't viable (for me) to start from scratch.

I have no illusions that I’m about to make a quick buck…I’m considering a longer term online business as one way of extracting myself from corporate boredom, and have a number of related sites in mind. One of the monetization strategies I need to consider in the development of sites has to be saleability.
