Domain Ideas - Long Shot but I'm Desparate.

Hi all,

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I've been searching 2 days, and I mean serious searching. And I simply cannot find a domain with "Tech" in it.

I have 3 potentials, which have tech in it. But they're not great and not very brandable. One is very rememberable but I don't know if its any good.

Is having "tech" in the domain for a technology site very important? Or should I try and get tech out of my head and think of a nice, catchy brandable name?

Thanks,
Wilks3y.

I don't think "tech" is necessary at all. I can name a hundred of the biggest tech websites that don't have the word "tech" in them at all. There are other facets of technology or other synonyms that you can use (like how Engadget took the gadget angle, etc.).

I'm sure if you get creative, you could find tons of domains with tech in them, but it isn't necessary. Wired doesn't have tech in it nor does numerous tech sites.

You dont need "tech" in it. The marketing will make the money for you - not the domain name. For example, "bleepingcomputer .com" doesn't have "tech" in it, but it's a very helpful site.

If you like the word "tech" then get creative and you'll find lots of good available domains.

Here are two places that will help you be creative:

      Lean Domain Search

      Impossibility

Just type the word "tech" (no quotes) in the search bar and bingo!

The best to all of you,

Obsessing about a single word is not the way to do it. I suggest putting together two lists to aid you in your name search.

List one is a list of all the features, advantages of those features, and benefits of your offerings.

List two is a list of all your competitors.

After looking at both lists you should be able to spot gaps that your competitors aren't servicing that you could highlight as your unique positioning. From there, the name will come to you.

If you can get Tech in domain name,
    its better enough.
    If No,
then come up with a catchy memorable and brandable domain name.
    Good luck with it

Yes, think of a niche that's profitable and brander-able, if your struggling to get a domain with tech in it. Use a niche idea. Works for me in a lot of ways.. Don't spend to long on it... Shouldn't take you more then 30 mins to pick a good domain.

I feel like almost every low quality tech blog I come across has 'tech' in the domain name. It's not original at all. Come up with something more creative.
