Less click thru's to merchant site after offering a bonus. Why?

I have a multi-page presell with a click thru to the merchant and it's going well. 5 sales from 100 clicks from PPC traffic.

I want to start building a list of buyers by offering a bonus, something which enhances the product I'm promoting

However, since adding this to my presell, my CTR to the merchant has decreased significantly. Any thoughts?

I ask the prospective buyers to e-mail me their name and receipt number to get the bonus.

I know the prospects have an urgent problem they need solved quickly, and I've tested building a list first and then promoting the product (this simply doesn't work). If they don't buy straight away, they are not going to buy at all.

Any suggestions?

    Your devaluing the original content by offering a bonus. Why would you need to offer a bonus if what they are going to receive is already a great package. Its the same when you see these 'gurus' offering a $247 package but a free bonus of $1997' for the first 100 people. You would start to doubt them at this point wouldn't you? I would as it shows a sign of desperation rather than valuable information that will help you.
