Ok wariiors - I broke down and found a list service that does email campaigns - supposedly optin. I bought the list - didn't rent it - bought it. I still haven't received it. The email supposedly went out on Thursday night - to 16,000 TARGETED people for my product and campaign. As of today, I have 12 visitors and 3 optins. What say you? |

They lie on the number or they got on the spam box or they weren't targetted enough

I say...rent a list. More specifically, Email Marketing and lead generation. business opportunity leads, mlm leads.. I just recently did a targeted email campaign for 1000 subscribers. They guarantee 50% click-throughs. I got about 3% to opt-in, which isn't bad considering the ad copy that I slapped together for it (it was bad, trust me). |

RentaList is rather scattergun approach, but they don't cost much. Their lists are untargetted, but you could get a few sign-ups that you could get your money back on at the 'back end'.

Not sarcastic: Why would one rent a list of people who are on gazzilion other lists? Doesn't that mean they are low quality opt ins? Am I missing a great opportunity by not understanding this? |

You took the words right out of my mouth. ![]() Overuse is a big problem with buying mailing lists. As well, when you send emails to people who have never heard of you, they tend to hit the spam button because they have no idea how/where you got their name and email address. Denise

Those so called optin e-mail lists are pure crap! Tried it a couple of years ago with similar results. Don't give your money to those scammers anymore.

Depending on what your promoting maybe an ad-swap with another warrior would work out better. Also based on your results building a niche specific twitter list would almost definitely produce better results. I have several twitter accounts and when I tweet they come running they visit blogs they make comments on rare occasions they have even bought |

I'd use all sorts of lists earlier and found it a complete waste of both time and money. My last experiment was using a blaster. They say they will sent 9 million emails daily. I got more than 1000 clicks to my affiliate link but no sales! |

Yeah, generally this sort of thing is a crappy approach to getting traffic. Now you know. |

I tried doing one of these and it didnt work either, I also tried a "Myspace Blast" type thing where it goes out to like 10,000 people on myspace, and that didnt work either. Moral of the story? make your own targeted list! |

Rent-a-list is kind of like any other ezine: it's hit and miss depending on your offer and ad copy.

Oh man, I am sure, you will get some more responses within a week, Normally email campaigns take about a week to reach people. I am sure you have done it just before about 3-4 days, Is it? So, you have to wait for 1 week or so to get targeted output (If you have quality emails list only).... Cheers man..... |

I think that's really what people want out of those lists... they think "if only I could find a group of people so gullible, wealthy, and impulsive that they would happily buy whatever I am selling, whether they need it or not". That's certainly no long-term sales plan, but if you're frustrated and annoyed about getting targeted traffic - hey, it might be a good place to start. But that's not what those lists are. They're just spam lists that have been around forever. I've got certain email addresses that have not been actively in use for over ten years, and they continue to get spam every single day. Someone has those addresses on a list. If you're renting a cheap list, I'd say the chances of having addresses like that rises pretty steeply. Okay, sometimes I read the spam, and occasionally I buy something from it. So maybe I am in that holy-grail demographic of "people who will buy any damn thing". I mean, I bought that egg separator where the egg whites drip out of the guy's nose, how hard a sell can I be?

Hello Winebuddy! I must say that it is good that you received 16 visits! In the beginning stages of my business, I was lucky to have gotten two clicks out of a 20,000 safe list send out. I learned very quickly that safe list sends were not the way to go. To Our Success, Philip J. Mutrie |

Reminds me of the days when I bought lists printed out with labels for MMO campaigns. Whew, what a waste of time At least now you don't have to spend $300 worth of postage to find out they stink!TomG. |

Just look at the IM niche. 95% of the leads I get come from my affiliates and I do a pretty good job at monetizing them. How many other lists do you think they are on? If you present the right offer for the right person at the right time, they will be a good lead even if it's the 1000th list they've ever opted in to. Hope that makes sense ![]() Jason

CdDarklock, maskedmarketer, and Jasondinner, Thanks for your answers.. I guess the verdict is unanimous. I was thinking that maybe they were just "list hoppers" that never bought anything because they become savvy to sales techniques... I guess you are right though. It goes along with the ole principle tht says: "Just because he says no ten times to ten different people doesn't mean he's going to say no to "you" on the eleventh time". That's what I got from your posts. So renting lists can be a good thing then. "Buyers lists are best", and "a fresh lead is the best lead..." I will jog these statements to memory. Thanks again for the sound advice. CDdarklock...you are right. I took a job at age 18 selling door to door.... my trainer said "look in their yards; if they have 2 lawn mowers, statues , wind chimes, and all kinds of other excessve stuff all over the place..., then you can safely assume they are the kind of people who just like to buy things they don't need for the sake of having them..." The sales trainer referred to those people as "mooches" which I thought was crude at the time, but damn if he wasn't right! People with a ton of stuff in their yard tended to be the easiest sales. After that I spent most of my time driving around looking only for "mooch yards" (lol) and it almost never failed. Thanks for reminding me...hey even a "mooch sale" is a sale. Amazing how sometimes we forget the basics. |

They could be old lists. Contrary to popular belief, a typical user on a list lasts an average of just over a year as a potential buyer.

I have used safelists with equally dismal results and worse. Looking around the lance sites though, you see many people (without so much as the common sense to use a different user name) paying people to create massive numbers of fake email addresses and then posting bids on jobs for people that want mailouts done. My personal opinion ... trade lists with people here. If you do not have a list, go to the JV section and look for people that may want to promote your product to their lists. Just my two cents for what it's worth |
