What to do with old domains I no longer have a use for?

Hi everyone,

I have quite a few domains lying around which I no longer have any use for. They don't really have any value and I very much doubt they would be worth much to other people. I have tried to develop things on these domains and I have quit for good reasons.

Is there any way I could at least get my money back or a couple of dollars on each one?

thanks

With domains, you basically have three options (one of which you've already tried):

    1. Do something with them.
    2. List them for sale - you might be surprised what some people will buy.
    3. Let them expire.

You can list them at Godaddy auctions. Does not cost much and who knows, maybe somebody likes one or a few of them and that would pay for the renewal of the rest.

Another option would be to develop one at a time and then sell it off.

If a domain is not worth developing and can not be sold you might as well just dump that name.

But do not underestimate how much a domain that might seem worthless might be worth for another.

For example last week I got 2 offers for a domain that usually
is not worth much (2 numbers an a letter .com, 3 characters). One person offered $400 and another offered $1,500.

So far it looks like I lost the poker as I asked $13,500 in return and no sale so far.
That particular domain is obviously worth $1,500 for somebody while
it is worth $400 for somebody else.

All I wanted to say: there can be a lot of value in a domain name even if it
might not be obvious for you at first glance.

    PS:
with that particular domain I did not even follow my own advice
as I did not consider it valuable enough to even list it

If your domains have keywords in them, I would do a google search on those keywords, note the top results, then contact the owners of the "results" sites and offer to sell your domain. Tell them their sites came up at the top of the search results for the keywords in the domain. The owners could then make "feeder" or satellite sites using the domain.

If your domain is a (dot)com, you could always see who owns the same domain name with a (dot) net or (dot) org. Maybe they'd be interested in buying the (dot) com from you for a small fee. This would at least pay for your cost of buying it the first time.

I don't think it's possible to "get your money back" after you've used your domain for the agreed terms.

If your website doesn't have any value at all and nobody is interested in it, you're better off letting it expire.

That is of course, if you are not interested in renewing it yourself.

Unless the domain is a highly sought out for domain then it really has no value. Especially if it has no content, or a nice design website. Try some of the suggestions here, but if you think it has no value, most likely others will think the same.

I am not kidding, you should build tons of backlinks to those domain to boost pagerank and sell service. To do this, you should know about private blog network so that donot leave any footprint between domain. Add the domain to many free blogging service such as: w p .com, blogspot, blog.com, edublog,....

If it's worth something, Sedo is a good bet. Otherwise, as others have said, it's probably worth letting them expire rather than to continue to pay renewal fees.
