Hi all, I am venturing on a new membership site in the IM/MMO niche and I badly need some ideas on what content to provide monthly to my paying members..

What would you like to have if for example, you signed up for a membership site..What kind of content do you expect? PLR articles? Videos?

Thanks for your kind input!

    Ricky,

Though I'm new the Warrior Forum, I'm not new to IM. First of all, I think it depends on the niche for which you are providing membership for. I think the content desired by members of yours would be different if they have created their own websites to market their offers, or simply individuals who have been provided with generic capture pages.

On my list, I know I primarily deal with people who do not have their own websites. With that being said, the questions they ask usually revolve around advertising strategies. They want content that is going to basically tell them how to get leads, and once they get them, how to close. Lets face it Ricky, usually people who pay to be members of a website that gives IM advice are looking for you to hold their hand. I think your more of a security blanket more than anything. I do get inquiries from individuals that do in fact have their own websites as well sometimes. They are usually looking for back linking strategies and simply how to master SEO. I get a lot of emails asking about different IM opportunities as well. Basically I think as long as you are providing quality content to your members, about all facets of IM, then they will be happy. Be assured, if they have specific questions, they will not hesitate to flood your inbox. If you have found success in the IM world, then simply pass on the knowledge you have to them, and that should suffice. I would be happy to pass on a list of specific questions I get on a regular basis if you would like. Message me if you are interested.
    Cheers

Useful original content created by someone who actually has experience enough to teach others.

      Here is the key.

I have three membership sites that are very sticky because I create my own content and know of what I teach.

I have members that have been paying monthly since 2007. The format is not that important, The content is key. Also make sure you cap the availability and rights to the products.

Case studies. But that's me. I have a lot of knowledge on the technical side of things, so I don't really watch how to videos.

But I love case studies. They give me so much ideas I can then implement on my own.

You have to use combinations of all (case studies, technical info, marketing info, PLR articles and much more)
When people go on membership sites, they do have lots of expectations from you; you are thus bound to provide them all quality stuff which will keep them on recurring payment on your membership site.

In any niche, in whatever format.

I personally don't need any kind of membership and can't think of a thing I would want in the way of one.

      Hey Brent,

Do you have a hosting account or an autoresponder account. If so, these are examples of a membership. Services are some of the best memberships you can own.

If you have a cell phone, you are part of a membership because you have to pay monthly fees. You need to widen your view of what memberships really are.

I hope this has been helpful,

It really depends on what area you're focusing on but you could provide a variety of content to your members. reports, video, audio, case studies. Alot of people like to learn a bunch of different ways and for me, with a membership site, I would be happy to get information in a wide variety of ways.

But the key component for anything that you plan on putting out there is to make sure that it's of value.

I'm not taking a shot at you or trying to be a jerk but this is my kind input:

If a person has to ask this kind of question it typically means a couple things:

    1. They don't have enough experience to know what to offer. For example, they hear that membership sites are all the rage or Kindle is the big new thing. So they start from there to try and get something to sell.

A better approach may be to join 15 membership sites in the niche they want to get into or buy 15 Kindle books. Then soak in the info - find the gaps, find what's good, find out how they can make things better.

Let's take a guy that is a dog training "master". Most people that have mastered anything have lots of books, teachers, courses, audios, etc. that they have used over the years to become a true master. Once they decide to monetize their knowledge and experience they wouldn't need to ask a question like this because they would already know.

    2. They have nothing of value to offer. There is nothing wrong with creating something of value but it's definitely wrong to create false value.

Take the dog training master example again. They KNOW the techniques, the tricks, the sorrows, the ups, the downs, the products to use. They have the scars from the dog bites, the stories about the owner that needed training instead of the dog, the contacts in the field, etc.

This type of person would never run out of things to say. They would never even THINK about asking someone else about what to write. The knowledge would flow from them instead of having to be made up on the spot to get someone to pay for another month's membership fee.

They may not be the best teacher even with a lot of value and experience to offer but that's an entirely different problem.

I would suggest that you may want to change your questions a bit. Most people could care less if there are videos, audio, PLR, or whatever IF, and this is a big IF, there is true experience and value in whatever format being offered.

There are those that say they would NEVER buy anything that didn't have video for example. Yet just a couple years ago they did - because videos weren't all the rage and they saw potential value in the purchase.

The question should never be what format, in my humble opinion, but the two above first - what experience do I have to offer and what can I create of value from that experience that truly helps others and helps me at the same time (by getting paid).

Then look and see if there is anyone that wants that experience and value enough to pay for it.

the problem with pdf files is, it's easier to copy and upload it on the blackhat forums - Membership sites are great, if they are useful, have case studies and good support!

I suugest , you need to make a research on your targeted audience , learn as much as you can about them . After you will do this you will not have any problems with generating really awesome content cause you will definetly now what do they want and need.

Ricky, you asked: "What would you like to have if for example, you signed up for a membership site..What kind of content do you expect? PLR articles? Videos?"

A lot of content questions can be decided by the price you're charging. For instance, a low-priced membership site can provide regular (weekly to monthly) emails, sent by autoresponder. The content can be text and/or can provide links to other content you produce (or curate), such as videos or podcasts.

A higher-priced membership can jump from emails to a membership site using one of the popular plugins (S2 Member, Digital Access Pass, Wishlist Member, etc.), and either all-provided or dripped content. Higher-priced deals can include video, MP3 audio, and/or content sent by mail by a fulfillment house like Kunaki (e.g., printed newsletters or CD/DVD).

For the actual content, you could include the following in regular rotation:
    - your own training lessons (teaching and motivational)
    - product reviews
    - FAQs answered, or selected member question answered (live webinar/Hangout with recorded replay allows you to "bond" directly with your members)
    - recorded interviews or live webinars with an industry expert/product creator, or member who's been taking the teachings to become a success
    - collated niche news summary, with your commentary and links to the content

    I like what Brent said.

In fact I nearly signed up for one yesterday on the grounds that every month he's talks about what worked and what didn't work over the past month.

In the trenches material from someone further down the line (and more successful) than you are.

I've been a member of TKA and GreedReports.

I joined TKA because back in 2010 they had a system THAT WORKED. Greedy posts here and GreedReports had some good stuff. I quit in the end because it was just information overload and there didn't seem to be any point in buying stuff that I could find for free elsewhere.

Unique content, videos or tutorials can be any niche, I mean you have to do it in your niche for which you have created membership site.

When people see quality and uniqueness in you (in your content, videos etc) they start trusting you more.

Don't just make them unique but also provide quality in you; you will last for long.

      Good Luck

    - Learn from membership sites you belong to, Try it: If you’ve never been part of a membership site before, consider joining one for a month or two. Think about:
    • What’s working well for you in that site? What makes it worth the monthly fee — and how could you replicate this?
    • What doesn’t work for you? If you’re struggling to find time to use the resources, for instance, how could the site owner make that easier?
When you create member content, you want to work to make it digestible so as to get results. Videos are great for this. Screencast videos are nice. I also recommend multiple formats in order to suit people’s learning styles. For example:
    • A video
    • The audio of that video (in MP3)
    • A transcript of that video (in PDF)
Doing this increases the real value to the member by allowing them to take it in whatever form is most convenient. It also increases the perceived value and that’s good for price justification.

    Yakim,

you are technically right but the OP is referring to particular kind of membership site that would be mainly composed of PLR articles, videos, etc.

And I believe Brent is also referring to content driven membership sites where the main objective is informational content. :p

      Here is what Brent said...

I personally don't need any kind of membership and can't think of a thing I would want in the way of one.

That comment is very wide and and addresses membership sites in general. Plus a service type membership site is easier to manage than a content membership site. Especially, if the service is controlled by software.

So my recommendation would be to come up with a service membership.

      Best regards,
