Looks like paypal is refunding money for us, U.S. Paypal account holders not living in the U.S.

Hope it's legit.

It seems to refer to charges connected to a Paypal debit or credit card? Just login to your Paypal account to verify if it is genuine.

It does sound a bit like a phishing attempt, so I suggest you don't click on any links in the email. (login via browser)

Let's hope you find some extra funds in your account!

The screen shot is actually from my paypal account. I never received an email from paypal so I doubt it's a phishing attempt.

Let's see if it stays in the account, hehehe.

Hey, that's good news. I wonder why they didn't give an explanation. Enjoy the extra funds!

Man...take that with a grain of salt..Please! There are scammers everywhere. As indicated above, do not click on any link that is supposed to take you directly to PayPal. Login to PPL independently and check for yourself.

I got it too. I am a Canadian Paypal debit card holder. Got $315 back. I called them to make sure it was legit. It is.

Finally got an email regarding the funds returned to my account:

But DAMN, I withdrew 417 times!

I guess that's what happens to you if you make money on-line in a country where you don't use debit/credit cards much and have to use cash.

This is a strange mistake, and the fact that Paypal admitted it was not necessary. This confession opens the doors for implications against our safety for trusting Paypal.

We don't know if there were more mistakes… not revealed to the public. This is an intriguing hypothesis.

This makes no sense to me.
PayPal has just done the most moral thing they could possibly do, and their honesty is surprising!

I mean, to have a refund of $417 is good in itself
When it comes totally out of the blue its even better.
And a third point to this, PayPal has just admitted a mistake, which by the sounds of it not a single person noticed, and therefor re-imbursed people that were effected.

The title of the thread "nice surprise from PayPal" suggest to me that the OP had no idea he'd been over charged by so much, PayPal could have just fixed it quietly and said no more.

      Your comment is almost irritating..

If you had a business, noticed an issue after a period of time, THAT NO ONE HAD NOTICED OR CARED ABOUT, would you start issuing random refunds of $417? I can almost guarantee you wouldn't

This SHOULD grow your trust for PayPal, knowing they are able to admit, and reconcile their mistakes.

      Good on PayPal...

Perhaps the reason why Paypal had to admit this mistake was the fact that many other mistakes happened.

Perhaps Paypal is trying to make the public think like you, and ‘love’ Paypal, without suspecting that this admirable company could ever steal your money because they have a good reason to present this image to the public.

The fact that Paypal made this mistake is very strange, and it surely indicates that perhaps many other mistakes were made, but not revealed to the ignorant public.

        Paypal’s position is very risky.

Any other company would be afraid to demonstrate this kind of ‘honesty’ and give back the money it took by mistake, because they were not supposed to make such mistakes.

        This confession is intriguing.

BTW, I forgot to mention a fact that happened in 2011. A big online company (not as important as Paypal, but very important) sent me a message telling me that they made a mistake and they sent me more money than what they should a few days before, and I had to give this amount back.

The amount was insignificant, but instead of giving it back I told them that I would publish this fact online and everyone would learn that this company makes mistakes in their payments.

They answered telling me to forget everything and that they were sorry for bothering me.

This is another reason why I believe that Paypal would never publicly admit having made a mistake.
