Does anyone have any recommendations in regards to video capture software these days? By this I mean software that will create a video of what is currently on your PC?

Thanks

I use screencast-o-matic.com, the paid version. It's $15 per year.

Works fine for me. They have a free version also.

Not an affiliate link. Actually I don't even know if they have an affiliate program.

2nd vote for Screencast-o-matic. Very powerful. Picture in picture capability. Pay for the pro version ($15 per year) cause it's totally worth it. No watermark.

Using iShowU HD and Final Cut Pro.

Great results - excellent How Tos on YouTube.

I use Camtasia but only because I got it before Screencast-o-matic came out. That would be my first choice now - just renewed at their 3 years for $29 deal.

I also use camtasia studios, but it is expensive. If you go to youtube and search for "camtasia sutdios 7 serial key" there are videos that will pop up to give you a serial key. I think they have one newer than 7 but 7 works wonders for me.

Camtasia (paid) or Active Presenter (free). Both are good and come with editing. CamStudio is good, too, but you'll need editing software.

I've been using Cam Studio for the past 3 years. It's free, and once you tweak the settings to where you want them and get used to using it it performs well and produces quality screen capture videos.

Hmmm, - I tried CamStudio and Screencast-o-matic free versions and maybe I didn't give them long enough.... BUT.... then I bought Camtasia. Not cheap, but it does everything VERY well from what I've seen so far. Plus free updates for life too.

My Screen Recorder desktop recording software works well for me. It is not expensive and creates very clear recordings that look great on Youtube. The Pro version of the software adds basic editing functions.

Camtasia is simple to learn and simple to use. It is great for creating youtube videos and is easy to edit. You have options such as turning the cursor on and off and bluring parts of the screen with sensetive information on.
    Definitely the way to go.

When it comes to video recording nothing really beats the overall quality and ease of use of camtasia! It's super easy and very effective to use! I think they offer some sort of free trial too! Great piece of software!

You can use Camtasia Studio 8 as a free trial. It's one of the most popular & easy to use video capture software out there.

I use Camtasia but only for the video, do not use them for the audio as it results in terrible audio quality.

I thought it was my mic but after checking with support at Blue (snowball mic) they confirmed that it was down to Camtasia thus I have switched audio recording to Audacity.

The other thing to note with Camtasia is that the latest release (8.x) is horrifically unstable, at least when used in a Windows 7 64 bit environment. I now use Sony Vegas to edit my videos as I cannot trust Camtasia to stay up whilst in the editing process.

Thanks to those who mentioned Screen-cast-o-matic I will give this a trial to see how it performs.
