Need Help with Open Office

INTERNET MARKETING

Hello everyone,

I've heard great things about Open Office. I even downloaded the program to try it. But, it's not working for me.

After double clicking on the icon and finding the document, then clicking ok... nothing happens.

Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong?

Did you try right clicking and selecting the "Open with" option Christie?

Sometimes this will happen when you first download OpenOffice and try to immediately open up an existing document. Or OOo Writer isn't the default opening program of choice.

OO Writer is part of OO. When I open OOo it gives me a list of internal programs - word processing, slide presentation, etc.

Christie, it sounds like one or more of OO's internal files didn't download properly.

Do a control panel-uninstall then download the program again.

It has been a few months since I installed it on this machine. As I recall, it downloads as a zip file, I put it into a folder and unpacked it, and there was a setup icon that started the install.

Is that how yours worked?

Hi,
I'm currently using Open Office 3.1.

Yes, Don. You described the way my OO works. I get a list of internal programs to use, but I don't know which one to select that integrates with Word Publisher. Do you have any suggestions? I'll try to select an option before uninsalling and reinstalling the program again.

Unless I'm mistaken (it can happen sometimes), Word is a word processor and Publisher is a desktop publishing application. Open Office includes its own word processor which happily opens all but the very latest Word files, but does not include a desktop publishing program.

Consequently, if you are actually trying to open a .pub (Publisher) file in OO, that may be why nothing happens.
