SuperCharge Your List Relationship

Hey guys. A hot topic I continue to see more of is, list building.

Often we hear, "the money is in the list" but it should be more like,

"The money is in the relationship with the list"

What are you guys doing to "supercharge" your relationship with your list to keep them engaged and opening and purchasing your promo emails.

-I'll share one real quick: Making a video (could be a power point presentation with a voice over from you) to give them some quick content and uploading it to YouTube and sending them the link in an email.

-Send out an email to ask what tip or content they want more of in the IM industry and then picking one of those topics to send out to your list as the "topic of the week"

...Food for though. What are you guys doing to engage and supercharge your relationship?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, maybe video is worth a million words? With that said, make sure you offer different types of videos to your list members because they might not all be interested in one particular subject. I've learned that mailers with several link options tend to do better in getting clicks than giving them only one option. Of course, this all depends on the framing and topic of your update.

I like the video idea. Having signed up to a few email list rarely do internet marketers offer good video content. I to have employed the use of feedback to understand what people more specific needs are. I just set up a feedback@ email address. And then sent it out to my list

I use the youtube idea and have started using slide share, mainly because my voice is not as good as I would like although with practice it is improving. Slide Share allows you to share PDFs, doc files and Powerpoint presentations amongst others.

I now do the Powerpoint presentation, upload it to slideshare as a Powerpoint and document and then create the voice over and upload it to YouTube.

I have not had to create from scratch as I am using my existing Ezine Articles as a basis for the presentations.

Repurposing content is the way to go.

My list is built around my blogs.

All traffic lands on the blog where there's lots of good quality content (my audiences words not mines!) and through this content they come to realize I have knowledge they want.

They read a bit and opt in to my list.

Already they know they like what I write about and they want to receive emails from me with more of the same.

Most of my emails send them back to my blog to new and old posts with some exclusives thrown in.

I keep engaging with them, asking them questions, telling them to email me with any problems they have, get them filling out surveys, encourage them to comment on my posts and always replying, connect with me on social media, tell them about my background and my life, strong branding etc.

Yes, you have to build a relationship with your list but there will always be people who will never buy what you recommend no matter how hard you try or how much value you give them.

The real secret is to give them value but you also have to get new and fresh leads every single day of the week to maximize your potential to bigger profits.

So do you also hide behind a nickname with your list, and does your list know you only as "TakenAction" or some other internet persona?

Are they only "building a relationship" with your follow up auto responder sequences that includes helpful tips, leading up to product promotions?

Or, do you actually have a real name, and a wife, kids and dog that they have the privilege of knowing, and building what "I" refer to as a "relationship" with?

100% agree you have to get close and talk about your life with your list so they can see you as a real person and not some internet persona as you say.

Yes, I use my real name and do talk about my life here and there.

keeping to one offer and not bombarding your list with different offers everyday. They will eventually feel there is no VALUE being on this persons list and unsubscribe. Also offer value 1st and ask for sale later

my favorite tactic and one that seems to work for me is not selling with every email, by providing good information for free it ensures that people will open more and more of your emails including the ones that have something to sell

I send out useful content under my own name (Dave Clark) which is always in the subject line. Not because I am proud of my name but because I want them to know I send decent content and look forward to seeing my emails. If I use lots of different subjects with nothing to hold it all together they will start to ignore my emails.

That's an interesting take on email subject lines I haven't heard.

Do you just strictly use your name every time and thats all? Whatever works for you and your list.

Great post and I agree with giving them video content is potentially the BEST way to build a relationship.

(I prefer something else - let me explain).

The best thing I ever did to my list (I shouldn't even be giving this information away for free) is ask them questions.

It doesn't matter if your list has 50 people or 500,000 - if you ask them real questions, and then know how to use that information, you can really extract the most value from your list.

    Just my $.02

Totally agree. You have to put a relationship in place in order to get your list to know you better. People will more likely to trust peolpe they know. This is very good advice.

I believe it is best to have the desire for a relationship with you to be the reason people signed up to your list in the first place. Email has a personal feel to it, so positioning yourself as a real human being (or, perhaps, team of relatable humans) with expertise and an engaging style of delivery prior to even sending an email is what leaves you with an active list.

thanks for the input. Although a lot of people are saying the same thing others are in terms of list being yourself with your list.

Anyone got anymore engaging aspects for your list?

Customer Service. If some one gets on your list and sees that you're genuinely trying to help them, they're more likely to buy stuff you recommend, especially if they KNOW you've already purchased it and are reviewing it, as opposed to just promoting it like most marketers do.

It's easy to set yourself apart from the every day 'buy the newest launch' affiliate marketers. Help people, they'll notice and respect you for it.
