The First Thing To Do

I have been reading about starting an online business for years now. I don't know where to start. What is then very first thing you suggest doing? Is it buying a domain? starting a blog? I have learned a lot of things but I don't know what to start with. Anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate any advice. Thanks.

How is that possible? My advice would be to figure out what type of business you're going to start and create a plan accordingly.

You really should put together a business plan. What type of business do you want to build? What is the audience for that business? How much can you invest in terms of time, money, outsourcing etc. What is a realistic ROI month by month? This will help you figure out what you need to do.

    1) Come up with a domain name idea, see if it's taken and then buy it.
    2) Select a host like GoDaddy or Host Gator.
    3) Get familiar with Wordpress as a platform. There are thousands of Youtube tutorials about how to get started with Wordpress.
    4) Spend your first months getting up all of your content.
    5) Basic SEO, setup a few backlinks to your website via Social Media, Forums, Blog comments, etc.
    6) Submit your website to the major search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing. Submit your website to the DMOZ open directory.

Those are a few of the major things one could do to start. Youtube is your best friend when it comes to tutorials.

Making money online is actually simple. People love to over complicate it, resulting on years of "wheel spin".

    1. Research and pick a market.
    2. Create a 15 page report - or use PowerPoint and a screen cam to create a video
    3. Buy a domain and host
    4. Buy an autoresponder
    5. Build a squeeze page
    6. Offer #2 for free to build a list
    7. Buy some target traffic to send to squeeze
8 . Let the list build while you develope a product to expand on freebie
    9. Create a SEPERATE domain and develope sales page for # 8
    10. Promote to new list.

Do that over and over in the same market until you dominate.

There's information readily available on how to do each step.

Is there more to it like affiliates and such?

    Yeah, but START HERE.

    That's what I did.

  • Before starting online business, you should do proper research about the market you are willing to enter. It is very important. Because, if you choose the wrong one it will cause you loss of money and time.

The first thing is to take inventory of yourself. What are you interested in? Do you have any offline work skills that could be transferred to the Internet?

Start a blog about something that interests you, add some relvant affiliate programs and start promoting it with blog posts, youtube videos and slideshare amongst others. Good luck in your endevours.

    Hi mwise891!

You've received a lot of good ideas already. Here's what I have to add to this part of your question:

Don't worry about where to begin, just begin. Create a Blog or a Facebook Group or a YouTube Channel, and then share the stuff you want to become known for.

What do you love to do?
    What are you good at?
    What have you overcome?

The key to starting is choosing something you can stick with until you begin to see results. That may be a month or three months or more, so you really have to love the subject matter.

And there has to be an audience. The easy way to find out if there is an audience for what you choose is to visit Amazon. If there are products and/or books about your topic, then you have something.

Just dig in. If you start something today, you'll be father along tomorrow than ever before!

    Best of luck to you.
