Astonishingly Low Open & Click Rates

I've spoken to many fellow email marketers and have only found 1 other person who has run into this problem, still looking how to fix it.

On one of my lists of about 16K, I have noticed that my opens are wayyy wayyy wayyy below where they should be.

I talked to bluehost, Aweber, and have changed IP addresses, used different domains, but the opens and clicks don't get where they should be.

My guess is that is has something to with some type of IP address or sender misconfiguration that is putting everything in the junk mail.

The only thing I have noticed that brings them to where they be is if I buy a new domain and use that as my from email.

However from there, everyday the opens go down by a 100 until it is back to square 1

Any suggestions on how to tackle the problem?

I'm open to anything that I haven't tested out.

Thanks!
James

Maybe you have a few anti's on your list that are reporting you as spam under the radar?

So - you change servers, domains, you're clean. Then you start sending emails again - and you suddenly diminish after a few sends?

Sounds like you're triggering something, could be a filter or a "hater".

You said you continually change domain and server, and then after a few sends your open rate diminishes?

    (Or, could be something else).

PS: I found this server that will check your host across multiple filters and blacklist systems: http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx

There are other "email server blacklist checks" out there free on Google.

    Here's what I would do.

    1) Change servers / domain.

    2) Check your blacklist status to make sure you're clean.

    3) Continue mailing as usual.

    4) If you notice diminished open rates, check your blacklist status again.

      Yea, that's a perfect description.

Almost like some type of blackhole that keeps returning

I have checked a few other IP checkers and before I did have one or two and when I asked a person from Bluehost, they said weren't a big deal because it's Aweber that sends out.

Maybe they were just pointing the finger, I'm not sure...

But this is what I came up with when putting in my IP...

Sounds like I need to get off of those

You know there is some major filtering for the outlook email.
At some points its not even received on the receivers end.
    Not even in junk.
I noticed this when i was waiting for an email from peerfly.
Somehow after so many attempts i got zero replies.
Until i realize i would need to manually type in the domain name to exclude these domains from being block.
    So this sucks

Not a problem. I love discussing stuff like this.

If you haven't done so already - you might consider consulting with whoever owns the server where your emails are sent out to see if they have encountered this type of behavior before.

I spoke with Aweber, unfortunately, they checked that all of the emails were in fact being sent out...

On which they also stated, that is their only responsibility.

Which I can understand, but didn't help my cause haha

Also another issue is that Gmail is now marking & filtering many marketing emails as promotional...so of course that's killing open rates.

Is it possible it's the list? Maybe they just don't want to open any email regarding whatever you are sending. I know, for me, I used to open MMO email from the 8 or 10 lists I was on and now I just ignore them. Maybe "The money is in the list - until it's not". just my 2 cents

I would take a close look at the material you are sending out. Increase the quality and slow down your mailing rate. You are probably getting blacklisted because your list thinks you are too spammy.
