Need step by step instructions to add an ebook to my site

Hi all,

I am just getting ready to sign up with aweber. But I have a minor problem.
I need to upload an ebook to my site. I host with hostgator.

I dont know if I just create a new folder (in Cpanel) and ftp the book to that new folder or what.

Can someone give me a quick lesson on how to do this or point me to a guide?

I'm assuming once I have the ebook uploaded then somewhere in aweber-I would give the address of the ebook and then after sign up-the person would get the ebook?

Desperate here-I have about 18 sites that I need to do this with.

Thanks in advance.
Deanna

I could use some help with that as well. Also, some ebooks would be a direct download and some would be password protected. How does that work?
Thanks Deanna for starting the thread.

You should zip the e-book and upload the zip folder to a new file, e.g. 'book' which you create in your domain. The address then becomes http://www.yourdomain/book/e-book.zip This is what customers download. If you want a password then you have to put that in when you construct the book. After payment you direct customers to a page called http://www.yourdomain/thankyou.html where you have the link to the book to download.

    Hope this helps

If you are downloading from aweber you put the link in the box for redirection. Sorry I forgot that.

Okay-I think I understand everything up until the thank you page.

I am using Wordpress-not sure if that matters- but how or where do you create the thank you page?

Is it the same as creating a simple html page and uploading to another folder under the same domain?

      Please advise.

If you are using Wordpress you can create a new page in the editor but I don't know how you protect it from non buyers. I would make a page somewhere else and give it a different name. You must have a domain if you are using Hostgator so set up a file in there as your thank you page. You only need a couple of lines of script. If you don't know how to do that you can use Site Studio or the Build a Site program.

Someone else might know a better way of doing it but that is how I do it.

    Opps, Norma posted quicker

Think you already have most of it figured out. Upload your e-book to your domain with FTP. Put a link to the e-mail in your AR series, should make it after they have confirmed their e-mail. Course this way would be easy for anyone to get your e-book by finding the link to it. Would at least make it a folder that would be hard to guess.

You could take it a step further and use something like 7dollar secrets script or DLguard, but then it's more know-how needed, more complicated if you haven't done it before.

You could password protect it, with in cpanel, but that might be more trouble than it's worth, passwords and all. Though the above scripts will protect it for you.

    Does this help at all?

    Deanna,

You might want to consider taking customers straight to the download page after purchase (assuming it's a paid ebook). With email delivery issues, customers may get frustrated waiting for an email to turn up with their download link in. I tend to take the customer to an opt-in page after ordering, then redirect them to the download page after that for instant download.

    All the best,
    Richard
