Will Buying A High PR Domain Help Site Rank?

I am wondering. If I purchase say a PR 3 or 4 domain will that help a website rank better? I want to do this but am worried I will get a website that has been sandboxed without me knowing. I figure buying an aged domain will be better than starting with a fresh new domain? Thanks
