I was responding to one of those dumb "If you had..... to invest" type threads and suggesting the OP use the search tool to find one of the other countless threads.

Upon my submission, I got an "invalid thread" message.

Seems someone deleted the thread - your solution is better than mine.

Thank you guys for doing a great job keeping this place valuable.

I join the other warriors who have stepped up and said publicly how TIRED of the stupid "if you had... " threads they are.

Thanks again.

      1. Thanking the mods for doing a good job, which doesn't happen nearly enough.

      2. EDUCATING anyone thinking of posting such a thread NOT to do it because redundancy has no VALUE...... and to SEARCH instead.

But to them it has value or they wouldn't ask questions. Not everyone knows how to search the forums for threads and if they do not everyone thinks about it. Just because you know about it doesn't mean everyone else does.

Also if you don't like those 'threads' then simply don't click on them and then you have nothing to worry about?

Seems like you are just making an issue out of nothing.

directing them (original posters) to search button and / or relevant threads solves the problem

You forgot to mention all the people that bump their own old threads.

Right but where do you suppose the line is for that?

Partaking in a conversation is one thing where as, coming back 6 months later and posting to your thread with some random blurb would be another.

The latter I don't agree with.

        Ben,

Depends. If they're bumping stuff days later, that's not cool. There are exceptions, but describing them here would just encourage people to use them to get around having a thread closed for bumping. Plus, they'd argue about it more.

Can't speak for the other mods on this, but I look at things like when the person is online relative to previous posts, how relevant the new posts are, whether they add anything useful, etc. Some folks report any thread they don't think should be getting more replies from the OP, which is not helpful.
