Taking credit card payments

how do most of you take credit card payments because at the moment i only have paypal and not everyone takes paypal so what is a basic solution ofr taking credit card payments online.

    You sound like a buyer. If that is the case you can use a PayPal debit card that will draw money from your PayPal account. Once you become a member, if you get your account verified by adding/linking a credit card or bank to your account, you can get a debit card from them and use that just like a regular debit or credit card. I used mine everywhere and it never got turned down.

    If you're a seller, you can add PayPal checkout to your website or get their monthly service to accept credit cards through them and accept any credit card then. Buyers would not have to have a PayPal account to purchase from you, nor would they have to sign up as a PayPal user to make a payment.

    If you have a registered domain name, some registrars offer a merchant account to you for an ecommerce website. May want to check that. There are many merchant account services. I used Authorized for a while, PayPal and another I forgot the name of now, but there are several out there. WordPress has ecommerce websites you can create and have several merchant account services as well.

    Non, if you're taking payments then you'll need to apply and be approved for a merchant account. Then you'll need to integrate with a payment gateway.

    The gateway can let you create payment forms, manage customers and a lot of other stuff and some gateway providers also help people get their merchant accounts.

    Simple - Use 2CheckOut.com. As a payment provider 2CheckOut.com can process credit cards, eChecks and even process via PayPal should your buyers want PayPal.

    Please note, PayPal also process credit cards. EDITED - NOT TRUE "But your buyers have to setup a PayPal account." IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THIS IS NOT TRUE EVEN FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS (buyers and subscribers do not need to open a PayPal account.)

    I have used both PayPal and 2CheckOut.com for over eleven years.

    2CheckOut.com is chosen 2 to 1 over PayPal by my buyers.

      Not true. Buyers can checkout with a credit card without having a Paypal account. If you use Paypal Website Payments Pro, you can take cards directly and customers never see Paypal.

      I use Paypal for my sites, Squareup.com for in person sales (though Paypal now has a card reader too, I prefer squareup for this as their swiper is more reliable).

        That's inaccurate.

        When a buyer checks out through a PayPal gateway, they have the option to sign up and buy, sign into their own PayPal account or just go through the gateway with their credit card just like anywhere else. No need for buyers to sign up w/PayPal nor have a current account with them.

    If you aren't using an "all in one" solution like PayPal or Amazon Payments, you're going to require a gateway and merchant account. 3 solutions I can recommend off the top of my head for you are stripe, braintree, and authorize.net.

    Well the simple solution i can give is use 2checkout.com . Its pretty good and secure.

    However , Paypal is also a viable option . If a person does not have paypal he can still pay from paypal from his credit card without having an account

    I stand corrected:

    To all those pointing out you can make a one-time purchase using a credit without opening PayPal account are CORRECT.

    My experience (and comment) was in regards to RECURRING PayPal subscriptions started with payment via credit cards. But I stand CORRECTED HERE TOO.

    I have been PMed by another member who has pointed out even recurring subscription via credit cards via PayPal you do not need a PayPal account.

    If you`re just starting your online business, opt for paypal, users that only have credit cards can still buy even without a paypal account.
